I can't help you with your question. But I can say that your bluebird pictures are really nice. I love the background of the 3rd one.

I think you made quite a bit of exposure adjustment in post otherwise #2 should be much darker than #3 as the ISO was about 2.5 stops lower.

Yes, I did. I was quite unhappy with the SOOC image produced by the camera for the first two, with my auto-WB and auto-ISO settings. ๐Ÿคจ

You change your position going from a bright sky background to trees or a darker background for the last photo. Happened to me with a GBH on a manmade perch. Winter white blah background & even the GBH was kind of greyish. I moved & green trees came into the background & suddenly the colors on the GBH came to life. Like you, I didn't change any settings & using *Auto White Balance* & Auto ISO. If your camera takes a couple of shots when shooting in continuous burst mode like my D810 does, sometimes the exposure changes also until the Auto settings readjust.

Thanks for the insights.

Thank you, Kathy. That's the shot where the camera picked the "right" WB and ISO settings.

I have bluebirds year round. I'm in Greensboro. I put out food they like and have bluebird houses too.

Cary is not that far north. I don't have a bird feeder other than for hummers. Maybe that is why I do not see them in winter months.

Very nice. It's 16ยฐ here, so I don't expect to see any warm weather birds today.

Thanks, Jerry, for the feedback on the pics.

I have good number of them here. Yes, they prefer wide open areas and golf courses fit the bill. The one in the picture is a female, males more vibrant blue.

While the 3 shots were taken within minutes of each other with the same camera settings, the metering came out different for the first 2 compared to the 3rd. Trying to figure out what happened from the RAW file. Maybe the sun came out for the 3rd (?).

Comments and critiques welcome.

Lovely shots, Ronnie
