I agree with Linda from Maine; the black and white really brings out his details.

Thanks Dodie. I don't think the absence of color detracts from the snake's beauty one bit.

Your b&w works well--brings out the snake's patterns beautifully.
Thank you. It helps that the snake may have recently she'd its skin. If I'm going to photograph a rattlesnake, which is not an everyday occurrence, I want it to look it's best.
A fine image. I hate snakes, though.

I know you do, which is why I appreciate you looking and commenting even though the topic title gave you full warning!

The details of each scale and the overall patterns are fantastic. The close framing adds to the impact.
Absolutely! The patterns and contrasts are uniquely suited to monochromatic presentation and are striking! (Pun intended...)

Ha. Luckily that was the only striking that occurred (I'm sure you know I wasn't that close). Thank you for looking.
Really nice conversion. Great subject too

Thanks! I like finding these guys.
Monochrome works well for bringing out the details on the snake SWFeral. Hope you shot with a long lens!

I'm afraid not, just my 24-105 mm. I wasn't more than six feet from the snake and it was edging away from me in a dry creek bed, so it had plenty of room. I do like how B/W cuts down on surrounding distractions, though those distractions are of course what help snakes blend in. If it hadn't announced itself I might have missed this opportunity--but I always appreciate the heads up when it comes to rattlesnakes.
