Not to be argumentive but, If you want JPEG's why not shoot that way and the camera will do all the work for you.

As usual, we don't know whom you are not arguing with since you refuse to use 'quote reply', but assuming you are replying to the OP, the reason to shoot raw is that you have the capability to produce better jpgs from raw files than depending on your camera.

Cameras are capable of producing good jpgs but the adjustments to the exposure that the camera can provide are fairly coarse compared to the fine adjustments most editing programs are capable of.

What you say doesn't make sense.

When you reply to someone in particular, please click the Quote Reply button under the comment to which you are replying. Using the Quick reply: FIELD is going to leave no clue as to whom you are directing your comment.

Nikon downloads their RAW as NEF. Then I convert to DNG and edit with Adobe. How do you do what you said? Or are we saying the same thing?

Why do you do that? Do you think there is some advantage to conversion of Nikon raw to Adobe raw? In 6 pages of this thread I have seen no reason to do so except to make up for outdated editing software.

If you have a good reason, let us know.

CS5 does recognize NEF file's load your files on to a whatever means you have like a external hard drive or computer for example and open the files in CS5 and do what you want to do in the way of processing and save as a JPeg or whatever TIFF your call. Mike piece of cake

I have never been able to get newer NEF files to open in CS5.
I convert them to DNG and then pretty much treat them the same as CS5

I have CS3 and PS Elements 15. They don't open NEF. That's why I have to convert to DNG. I tried a test run on Topaz but it is slow and I haven't been able to see any difference in the results. Why pay $200 for Topaz or $20 or $30/month (or whatever Adobe is charging now)? If I were a Pro, maybe, but not for someone who is just having fun with a camera to record my grandkids and family and scenic trips with good clear pictures to remember life's events.

A Photoshop subscription is still $10 a month, and hasn't changed since the beginning.
