Threatened by inadequacy? Are you serious? People are not threatened, they are annoyed by the brand pimping. Now, as one guilty of doing that, it seems clear that you are projecting when you say that others are feeling inadequate. For you the line between brand loyalty and personal identity pretty blurred. That does not mean that it is true for the rest of us.

I shoot several brands, each has its benefits, and that is what the OP was stating for sports photography. You have the usual jerks who really did not have to post, but did. Well, one previous poster said it best in my opinion. I don't know if these Sony's are "best" in their class or not, but I do know that Sony was very marketing savvy in coming up with deals for giant media organizations. Between volume discounts and exclusive contracts, they have gotten their products out into full public view. Hey, I might use Sony myself if they gave me sweetheart deals...

You can't go wrong with the Sony A7r4 camera that costs far less than the Alpha1 and it has the same huge sensor that allows me to take excellent pictures in poor lighting conditionsat Hartman Arena shooting for the Wichita Wings Indoor Soccer team for the last forty-three years. At most times I was a staffer which means I quite often wound up using cameras I really disliked. But at least I didnt hafta buy them.

So really I did care, but que sera sera. OTOH, fortunately for me the boss didnt know much about film processors so I got to recommend (and receive) my fave on that.

Actually the major brands submitted similar bids for gear. I have worked for AP and know their chief of photography and how they choose equipment for their staffers. No one accused them of these silly conspiracies when they used Nikon and Canon on similar gear deals in the past.
