One indication of the loss of quality, or lack thereof, involved in converting to dng, might be indicated by the fact that the makers of HeliconFocus software, which I use for converting a stack of variably focused NEF images into a single focused stack image, uses the dng format for its output. My use of their system may not indicate much by way of quality, but the software's pretty solid reputation reputation might.
Interesting to know!

😁😁😁

Pebbles pitched into the overlapping, intersecting ripples fluttering around in a pond, can be amaaazingly, or just amoooozingly informative.......if the RAW winds don't swamp them in driven wavelets.

You need to download and update to a current version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) from the Adobe website. You also might consider upgrading to the new Adobe photo suite of Lightroom and Photoshop. It’s cheap. Otherwise, the Nikon NX software works and it’s a free download from the Nikon website.

Alas, downloading the current ACR update will not solve our OP's problem. Specific ACR versions are compatible with specific versions of the other Adobe software. Adobe publishes the limits, where our OP's CS5 is limited to ACR v6.7. The current version is listed as v16.1, worthless to our OP's ancient software.

Perhaps downloading a newer ACR would help. Adobe website said you only need ACR 6.3 to handle *.nef files from Nikon D7000.

Hi,
Can anyone help me with this?
I have a Nikon D7000 and I shoot with RAW. How can I get the files to transfer to JPG or something, Currently, my Photoshop CS5 does not recognize them.

Any idea anyone?

Thanks for your help.
Why are you shooting raw? If you want JPEG format just set the camera to generate JPEG images and save yourself all the hassle. The fact is if you don’t know how to “develop” raw images the camera JPEG will be better. You doubt this? Set the camera to generate both then compare your developed raw image to the camera’s jpeg.

With enough sweet-talking, I might be persuaded to donate my copy - but probably not.
