I’m colour blind and I don’t have a problem with colours. The camera is fairly accurate in getting the colours right and I don’t mess around with the colours.

I guess I don't understand 'Colour Blind'.

How do you know the camera is fairly accurate?

People who can see colors can still enjoy your color images.
I don't change any of the colors in my images. I wouldn't worry about yourself
making "have to", color adjustments.
You don't see strictly, in black & white.
I suggest, do what you want and that could, include both.
And, no. You are not wasting your time!!!
Enjoy capturing images!

Great advice cuz it doesnt stupidly tell the OP to specialize in BW. His color photos will be remarkable and should be seen.

Ive never been tested for color correctness. I just produce what looks good to me with no concern at all whether it meets anyone elses expectation of "normal".

The "viewing public" should NOT be deprived of whatever "color blind" photographers will produce. Suggestions to specialize in BW are soooooo typical of the tiny minds and feeble imaginations that haunt UHH.

When I took my draft physical is when I found out I was colorblind. I was surprised enough that I had my ophthalmologist double check the test. Yup, blue/yellow colorblind. At that point I had been shooting sports for the local paper for a couple of years. It was all b&w so the question never came up.

Fast forward 50+ years and I have been successfully shooting color for a long, long time. Along the way I shot a lot of Kodachrome which really saturated distinct colors. And, there were no developing knobs for the photographer to spin. Much of my post in LRC probably resembles Kodachrome. Most of the time I get it right LRC but if I need some calibration, my wife is an artist who is super critical about color. So, my thought is go for it, learn your limits and how to compensate for them, and, marry an artist to keep you on track.

Replying in a six-year old topic to a user who died a couple of years ago. Fascinating.

I have many brown or gray articles of clothing that my wife swears are some shade of either green or blue. In addition, I fail tests discriminating shades of red, although I can see red. In post processing, I just leave colors the way they are. The camera can see color better than I do. Nobody has complained yet about the color in the pictures I take.

However, the pictures I painted in collage left people wondering why I used the colors I did. That was the first indication I had that I was partially colorblind.

Such replies are to the group, not to any dead Hawgs. The reply is about the advice and not about the giver of the advice, and so in future I shall delete the user name from the quote in similar situations. Thanks for the inspiration.

This thread is not about choosing some gear, fixing a malfunction, or photo ops on some upcoming trip. Such topics obviously expire. Other topics are not so time sensitive.

B&W was worst possible advice back then and remains so. Color blindness is not going away.

How would you know? Often even camera jpgs do not capture the natural or best color.

I noticed that too and am a bit confused by the entire thread now. UHH'ing from the dead.

That's quite a good summary of how we should respond to posts we don't agree with. Making it about the giver of the advice is a recipe for acrimony and long drawn out mud-slinging sessions (which is just the sort of thing that puts people off participating in this forum).

Hello all; As I have been tested and it has been determined that I am "Color-Blind" respecting "Reds", "Greens", & "Browns", so what I see is not what other's see. But I want to ask those of you who are Photographer's and NOT Color Blind, am I wasting my time in Photography?
Especially when it comes to "Post-Processing" my images?
Your kind but genuine Thoughts and opinions will certainly be appreciated.
I certainly DO love Photography.

I am the same 'colour blind'. It's very common. No, you are not wasting your time in photography.

I have never found it a handicap, not at all.
And I have won photo competitions, sold prints, held exhibitions, published photos, done weddings and events, and you name it.

So keep on doing what you love.

Well, what does that matter! 'Colour blindness' is very common among men, so others will be interested in the topic even if you're not.

I know another color blind photographer, and he does interesting work. But black and white is the way to go!
