I drove out to the park this morning, located about and hour’s drive WNW of Quebec City. My first time there. The park is quite large and has a number of trails accessible from different parking lots. I chose one that has a trail running along a gorge of the Ste. Anne River. Not knowing the area I ended up hiking along one trail that, unfortunately, had no access to the gorge. It was just a pleasant walk in the woods. I did finally manage to correct that error. We have been having unusually mild weather with temperatures often above freezing followed by colder spells. This has made the trails somewhat treacherous as they are well packed and quite slippery in spots. Rather foolishly, I left my hiking poles and crampons in the car. As a result, my feet went out from under me at one point resulting in a rather nasty bruise to my right knee, but, fortunately, nothing more serious. At one point I was actually negotiating a stretch of ice on my hands and knees, for fear of falling and breaking a limb. Anyway, here are a few of the shots that I took along one part of the gorge. It looked to me as if this area was once a part of the river below an old power dam.
The first photo was taken from a service road bridge that crosses the river at one point.
Beautiful place, but definitely hazardous.

Thank you, Curmudgeon! After a few minutes you become impervious to the cold.
