If you take a tour of the Vatican you can climb to the top of the dome of St Peter's Cathedral. This is the view at 8am in early December last year. View 2 is on the roof looking up at the dome before climbing 322 steps to the top.

Great view that I've not seen before. As it's open to the public, apparently, some of us are more dedicated than the rest of us. Nice job.

It's part of a Vatican guided tour. The tour starts at 7am and takes you through St Peters and then the Vatican Museum. Takes about 5 hours. 322 steps puts you to the viewing balcony at the top of the dome.

322 stairs to the viewing balcony does require a little dedication not to mention some targeted encouragement from ones better half! Well worth it in the long run.
