I saw two interesting YouTube videos lately. One was by Joe Scott, and the other by Sabina Hossenfelder. Both discuss the future, with Joe looking at 2100, and Sabine looking at 2040.
Joe mentioned how so many clever people predicted so many developments and inventions that turned out to be correct. Arthur C. Clarke and Jules Verne were especially accurate. I forget who it was, but I heard years ago that someone predicted that when we finally land on the moon, the ship will be launched from Florida and circle the earth three times before heading to the moon. That's exactly what happened.
Sabine is a scientist, so she concentrated on AI, getting opinions from other scientists. According to scientists, the future doesn't look very rosy - because of AI. As you already know, AI is very powerful, and it's going to advance very quickly. In the not-too-distant future, it will be almost impossible to tell what is real and what is AI.

I avoid movies that are described as "apocalyptic."

If I should live long enough.
One group predicted "megadeaths" because of AI. "Megadeath" is the term used to describe the death of a million people. Other groups think the deaths caused by AI will only be in the thousands.

I suspect it will actually be "gigadeaths" if AI uses logic to determine the problem with Earth's environment.

It’s just a matter of time, Jerry. It’s happening in part already. Accept it 😀

Why, wasn't George Orwell fairly prescient with "1984" - he seemed to predict where we find ourselves today.

Not just because of AI. I think she is being a little short sighted.
Climate change and much more extreme weather. What we are experiencing may just be the beginning of a much more intense weather conditions.
The potential geopolitical implications of millions of 'starving people' and their need to migrate to places that can feed them.
Government social programs that require funding as a population ages and is not replenished by younger people.
Current political instability in the world.
...and the list goes on.
I had the real/not real experience last night…..after three martinis 🫨.
