CF Express Card Reader - Another Question

I use Photoshop Elements (upgraded to the latest version of Adobe Camara Raw) as my post-processing software. When I insert an SD card in the card reader on my computer, the program properly recognizes it as a Nikon Z8 (or whatever body formatted the card). But when I insert a CF Express B card in the card reader, which is attached to the computer via USB C, the program does not recognize it as a camera, but rather simply as a file containing the RAW images.

Why the difference?

I'm guessing it's just a driver difference. The card slot driver knows and expects a memory card, but a USB port can accept any form of USB connection, and so is more generic in use.

That's my thought, too.

The reason I raise the question is that the program differentiates between the two sources of images, and offers different importing options.

I'm sure that's the difference. I use an external reader that reads CF Express and SD cards. It attaches to the computer via USB. Both cards show up as external memory, not as cameras.

I have the same issue running Bridge. The operating system recognizes the drive but Adobe does not recognize it as a "source" for images. Other online forums report this is a longstanding issue with Adobe as to CF Express but that Adobe blames a subcontracting vendor responsible for that module. Even though they could order a fix, they seemingly have not done so.

The workaround in Bridge is go to the DCIM directory (which it recognizes) and copy images to where you want them to wind up.

Pls explain why this distinction is important?

When the Program imports files from the Camera, it provides for a number of file naming options, including assigning a file name to the batch that is different from the name assigned by the camera.

All of those options are not available when importing from files or folders.

Do both cards use the same image format (raw or JPEG) or does the SD contain JPEGs and the CF raws?
