Now those are great photographs of some incredible cars. If you are taking orders I will take every car after the first photo. Perhaps you could then throw in the car in the first photo as an incentive. Well done.

Thank you, Doc, and it was so dark at this place, it was hard not to look at them differently

Wonderful set, Joe. When I was a teenager I loved the Studebaker Hawk.

Joe, they're still stylish and beautiful, IMHO IMHO, the best styling is the one that still looks good fifty years into the future. Look at the Avanti as an example

Learned to drive in a ‘52 Studebaker Commander. Was a shame they went away; ‘53 & ‘54 coupes were ahead of their time.

In the past twenty years taking digital shots, I have come across many superb vehicles matching that "ahead of their time" description

It is definitely worth if visit if you are ever in the area, but the lighting is awful and the crowding together of the cars is an issue as well, but I thank you for your visit

1953 Studebaker coupe/hardtop. Best looking American car ever.

Ramond Lowey designed the ‘53 “Lowey coupes” as they were called. This body was the basis for all of the Hawks built till 1964 as well as the ‘63-‘64 Avanti. He was an industrial designer and designed everything from the classic Coke bottle to toasters to the streamlined diesel locomotives of the ‘50-‘60s to the paint scheme on Air Force One.

The guy really knew how to make utilitarian machines look pleasing to the eye. In fact the Avanti has curves kind of like a Coke bottle. In a way Lowey was like a good photographer, able to make even the mundane look interesting. I guess it’s all a matter of balance.

The ‘63-‘64 Gran Turismo Hawk was designed by Lowey’s associate Brook Stevens. I think they are the best looking of all the Hawks. I have a ‘60 Hawk (by that time there was no Silver or Golden) with the fins but I’d trade it for a finless GT.

I was there several years ago. Lot of cool cars but your criticism is spot on.

Not surprising to me though. When you look at the rest of the town, it’s quite obvious that what was once a vibrant and productive industrial city is now a mostly cleaned up shell of its former self. I suspect that before the big clean up, it looked like the war torn cities we see on the news.

Yes South Bend is not what it used to be. In the past Singer sewing machine cabinets were built there. Johnson Outboard had a plant in town and were tested on the Saint Joseph River. Bendix was huge, Oliver, and the list goes on.

While I hate to sound greedy I would very much love for you to write that check and have them delivered to Eastern Idaho in my name. Count on me to actually put them on the road from time to time too. They are just beautiful. I am sending a Million thank you's Joe for being so kind.

As some prison inmates used to say, You are all that and a bag of chips. Definitely a good thing.
