Not surprising to me though. When you look at the rest of the town, it’s quite obvious that what was once a vibrant and productive industrial city is now a mostly cleaned up shell of its former self. I suspect that before the big clean up, it looked like the war torn cities we see on the news.
Yes South Bend is not what it used to be. In the past Singer sewing machine cabinets were built there. Johnson Outboard had a plant in town and were tested on the Saint Joseph River. Bendix was huge, Oliver, and the list goes on.
