Hey guys, how do you like the "new" shortened zippers on your jeans? I curse the z%$#& (probably female) bean counter who decided shorten the zipper on my jeans by 1 1/2 inches in order to save a few cents every time I try to get my hand in there to do what it has to do. I don't have a big hand, I take a medium glove but I can't get more than two or three finger in there and sometimes the extra time it takes is too much. I would gladly pay ten times what they have saved to get a full length zipper back. It seems that many manufacturers are now getting on the bandwagon. What can we do?

I had some dress pants like that a few years back. It was maddening trying to use them as you described. They were so nice and looked good so I put up with the situation until I just couldn't anymore. I donated all four pairs to a thrift store. I was in a management position where each day I needed to dress in business casual so I jumped in and got four pairs before really understanding they were something I couldn't live with.

I suppose that I am just the opposite, since Levis never fit me quite right. I used to wear Lees all the time, but now I only wear relaxed fit Wranglers. I also buy a pile at a time.

Most of the short pocket, short zipper stuff is made in China, I think. They are usually cheaper and my wife likes bargains, so she has been instructed to never, ever buy my bluejeans.

Yupper. Wore Levi’s when I was young and skinny. Now it’s Wranglers relaxed fit. Much easier to move around in. My problem is finding 29” inseams as I am short legged. Hardly ever find that inseam at Walmart; even hard to find at a large mall outlet.

Who needs a zipper when they can use the holes in the knees? 😁

Hm; hadn’t thought of that.

I have the same problem with the inseam except mine is 27" so I take mine to a tailor and have them shorten. Usually the closet I can find is 30" and I can't complain about the price of the tailoring since I am only being charged 9.95 a pair. It takes about a week from the time I drop them off and since my days off are Sunday and Monday I can drop them off on Sunday.

Yes, and the cost of getting them shortened is almost as much as the jeans themselves.

Glad you brought this up, I bought a couple pairs of jeans from Academy a while back and have had trouble with the short zippers ever since. Just took a ruler and checked the measurement between them and a pair of my 505 Levi’s and they are 2 inches shorter. The Levi’s are 8 inches and the Magellans are 6 inches, and the bottom of the Magellan pockets almost reach my knees. They should take the money that they would save on pocket material and invest in to longer zippers.

I don't know if you have Meijer stores in your area, but if you do, they carry 30", that's what I buy.

I bought a pair of "Champion" brand sweatpants, heavy duty. They were oversized but that's ok for sweatpants. The drawstrings were only three inches long, couldn't tie them together. Basically useless.

You can see the Chinese (or whoever) manufacturers working this out. "Let's see now 6" of drawstring worth 4c times 100,000 = yikes that's $4000. Let's do it anyway. I wonder if we can apply this elsewhere ?"

Be it long pants or short pants I have found Carhart brand from Homedepot.com to have lots of pockets and full length zippers. I buy relaxed fit stile. Yes they are basically work pants but they still are great, just not "blue jeans"
Tan, Hickory, dark grey.

Homedepot.com or maybe carhartt.com?

I buy tools and wood from Homedepot.com, I buy jackets, shirts, hats, etc. from Carhartt.com.
I checked Homedepot.com for Carhartt clothing and found nothing.
Never seen any in one of their stores either.

Tractor Supply sells Carhartt if there is one in the area.

Maybe it is a Southern California thing but all the Home Depot stores in San Diego County (10+) have Carhartt work clothing in the Tool department and I have been buying thru HomeDepot.com to get the 44" waist size I need.

I am also a 29" inseam. I buy most of my pants at the used clothing stores. I find a large selection of my size there.
