You took the words right out of my mouth. Great minds working in the same direction.
Yes buy a better camera. I noticed that people with broken cameras are more likely trying to have it fixed and people with perfectly working cameras are more likely to buy new cameras.
I think your camera is broken, it's the right time to buy a better camera.

"he" ?? You mean me, eh?! LOL... I was actually downstream of Hell's Canyon a few miles, on a reservoir (Snake River, border of Idaho and Oregon) shooting Milky Way timelapses with two cameras. Each was on a rock, next to the water.. 15' apart. Went to move the R5/Rokinon 24 f/1.4 up for panorama shots, lost balance with only a red headlamp lit... Didn't feel my leg contact the tripod, but sure as shootin' heard the splash. How I got the rig is a long story..but it did help to have them and loss estimates for the insurance claim.... sigh....
Latest update: I tried the hair dryer/shoe box trick and still have a dead camera. Time for something new. I checked the Nikon site and was surprised to see they still sell D7200's and D7500's new. Must be lingering inventory. You may be wondering why the crop cameras; the reason being I have 4 good DX lenses. Perhaps I'm being stubborn but I mainly need a backup to my D850. Interestingly, Nikon has the 7500 on sale for $200 less than a new 7200. I've thought about a used D500 but their prices range close to or above the 7500. There you have it. Thanks again for all your comments.
See if there are any local camera stores nearby. They may do repairs and may not be costly.

I just checked the Nikon website and the D7200 is listed as "out of stock". The D7500 is available though
