Hey guys, how do you like the "new" shortened zippers on your jeans? I curse the z%$#& (probably female) bean counter who decided shorten the zipper on my jeans by 1 1/2 inches in order to save a few cents every time I try to get my hand in there to do what it has to do. I don't have a big hand, I take a medium glove but I can't get more than two or three finger in there and sometimes the extra time it takes is too much. I would gladly pay ten times what they have saved to get a full length zipper back. It seems that many manufacturers are now getting on the bandwagon. What can we do?

I had the same surprise a few months ago. My wife sorted it. I hadn't noticed in the description they were described as 'low rise'.
Returned them and got the normal fitting and the zip was as usual a long one. Same price.
Check and see if yours are shown as low rise ..

No they are not low rise but I think the zipper is from a low rise.

My wife bought me a pair of pants about 5 years ago because she liked the look of them. I won't wear them because they not only have a short zipper, but the pockets are substandard. I can get my hand into them but the pockets are not deep enough to hold what I'm used to keeping in there. Even things like my wallet don't fit well.

And shirts these days come without pockets. I have no place to put my glasses. I have to stick one of the temples into the collar. If I put my glasses in my pants pocket (assuming I can fit them in) then I can't get at my glasses when I'm sitting down.

I have been wearing shirts and pants with pockets for more than 75 years now. Fashion be damned. I need all the pockets I can get in my clothes.

My wife complains about me trying to work in the kitchen. I have told her I will not do kitchen work if she will not buy me clothes. (PS: I know how to use the sewing machine. My first wife bought it. The current wife has never had a sewing machine, so that's my area of expertise [albeit limited to basic functions]).

And they want you to believe the good ole days weren't better. Wrong.

Hey! in the Good Ole Days they had buttons, not zippers!

Jeans, jeans, what are they?
I only wear Champion cotton shorts.
Yes, year round.
I don't own a pair of pants.

Levi's still have button flies, and I prefer them. If a zipper goes bad, it isn't cost effective to get it replaced.

I too, hate the short zipper. In addition to that, I am opposed to Velcro on clothing. It doesn't last long and traps anything it touches. I want buttons on pants and snaps on jacket collars and cuffs.

I bought a pair of "Champion" brand sweatpants, heavy duty. They were oversized but that's ok for sweatpants. The drawstrings were only three inches long, couldn't tie them together. Basically useless.

Apparently it depends on what brand one buys.

Of course.
I have been wearing Levi's since I was in grade school. They fit me (or perhaps they have molded me to their cut). Every so often I will try a different brand. They don't fit the same. Even within Levi's line there are styles I don't like. When I find one that works for me I buy 6 or so. When I was on the farm, that would be 2-3 years worth. Now that I'm retired they last much longer.

I suppose that I am just the opposite, since Levis never fit me quite right. I used to wear Lees all the time, but now I only wear relaxed fit Wranglers. I also buy a pile at a time.

Most of the short pocket, short zipper stuff is made in China, I think. They are usually cheaper and my wife likes bargains, so she has been instructed to never, ever buy my bluejeans.

Perhaps if everyone that reads these words . . . write emails to some of the MFG's of men's pants and complains about the trend to pockets not deep enough . . . and also zippers to short . . . some of the MFG's will decide to give us what we want . . . at a higher price, but that's OK.

Who needs a zipper when they can use the holes in the knees? 😁
