It all started with a mouse... A new exhibit is touring N America and Europe celebrating 100 years of Disney.

Disney 100: The Exhibition
Chicago, IL
January 2024

The 100-year legacy of Walt Disney features 10 galleries, 14 interactive installations and over 250 pieces of art, props and costumes.

Dopey

The exhibit begins with Walt's early life here in Chicago and then his first animation work with his brother Roy.

Tow Mater

Now that Disney is a subscription cable channel, multiple theme parks, cruise ships, and the owner of several studios and franchises, a lot of those other movies and characters are covered, such as Star Wars, below, and Pixar, above.

First Order Stormtrooper

I don't normally 'share' portrait-oriented images to UHH. But, everything captured at the exhibit was using an iPhone 13.

Pinocchio

The phone tends to generate portrait oriented images. Everything in this post was captured as JPEG, edited in Adobe Lightroom v6 and posted to Flickr. Most of the images were shot through glass display cases. Even then, many of the details are amazing.

Black Panther

Walking around the exhibition, you can view the early tech of Pixar, sketches from timeless Disney movies and TV shows, the celestial landscapes of Star Wars and the props of Marvel films.

BB-8

The planning for the parks in California and Florida are covered in detail, along with their openings that were broadcast to 70-million viewers on ABC in the 1950s.

Matterhorn bobsled

There is a lot of the exhibition that die-hard Disney fans will love, and a balance of text, video and interactive fun for the family to explore. Us oldsters marveled at the age of many of the most famous films and youthful memories, Snow White (1937), Bambi (1942), Cinderella (1950), The Mickey Mouse Club (1955), Mary Poppins (1964), Escape to Witch Mountain (1975).

Cogsworth

Disney received 59 Academy Award nominations, including 22 awards: both totals are records. Walt was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, but did not win, but he was presented with two Special Achievement Awards -- for Bambi (1942) and The Living Desert (1953) -- and the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Peter Pan and Wendy

The tour is mostly over, Chicago being near the end of the 2023-2024 tour, a few remaining dates include:

Chicago, ending March 2024
London, England March 6 to April 30, 2024
Kansas City starting May 24, 2024

Mickey Mouse

Thank you Bill, Earnest, NMGal, Mike, Bruce, goodie65, Moondoggie! There was a lot of material about the early process of creating animation and some of Disney's 'new' ideas that changed how animation was created, including moving to all color. If there's a chance to see, well worth the trip.

Actually, Oswald only appeared in one cartoon. The "second" appeared opposite Oswald.... He is Peg Leg Pete...has appeared as 'villian' in many more cartoons.
