Thank you Philo for looking in on this series and your kind words, you are certainly right: this was an extraordinary drive with highlights in so many places in old cities, national parks, great mountain scenery, really a dream!

For your reference:

Really like this posting Joe. I never been there but friends of mine have and I've seen lots of pictures of the area. Yours really captured the feel and magic of the place. I particularly like your images from Lake Bled, the castle and the churches. Didn't Tito have a residence in the area too. Good job, good show!

Thank you Reuss for looking in again on my presentations. Lake Bled with the island, castle and churches is indeed a very nice place, maybe not as magical as the Plitvice Lakes National Park, but very nice indeed. And the former Jugoslav president Tito did indeed have a mansion on the shores of Lake Bled, if I understand correctly, it is now a hotel - maybe a place to go and stay at when you visit this area? (According to Booking.com it is not taking reservations right now, but its opening might be seasonal, who knows ...)

Our revised travel route, due to the impending arrival of a bad-weather front, led us from Plitvice Lakes National Park directly to the town of BLED at the famous Lake Bled in northern Slovenia. We still experienced good weather there and enjoyed the legendary rowboat experience, where one sole oarsman rowed a group of some 20 passengers from the shore of the lake to Bled Island with its picturesque church. We stayed two relaxing days in Bled and then traveled on via KRANJSKA GORA to the Austrian town of VILLACH in Carinthia (Kärnten), visited in the neighborhood of this town a couple of scenic lakes and had lunch at the medieval castle LANDSKRON situated at the top of a hill with a great view and dozens of hang gliders afloat in the air using the updrafts from the hill.

The images in this set show the magic of these borderlands: First 3 more images from Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, then 3 images from Bled and one from Kranjska Gora all in Slovenia and to finish 3 images from castle Landskron and a neighboring lake in Austria.

Our revised travel route, due to the impending arr... (show quote)

Great to see all the places I've seen 50 years ago. We (parents, sister and myself) have spent at least 8 summer holidays in Carinthia. The Dolomites we still visit in winter, skiing. Did you also visit "die Tscheppaschlucht" ?

Thank you Haenzel for looking in on my mini-series. Glad to hear that my posts included some places that bring you memories from years past - always good to have these moments! This was actually our first time to visit the Dolomites and Kärnten. Unfortunately we had to cut our planned stay because of bad weather developing, but we plan to get back there soon, to mop up what we didn't see and explore more areas. I was not aware of the Tscheppaschlucht but will add that now to our considerations for the next trip planning. Thank you for your input! My presentations in this series have already lasted two weeks and will continue for another week or so, I hope you will find the time and interest to look in on the coming sets and maybe look back on the old ones if you haven't seen them.

Very nice set Joe. I really like #3 with the waterfalls, and the walkway with people on it shows the scale. the shots of Slovenia/Bled are really nice too, as well as 9 and 10 along with the hang gliders you captured in them.

Thank you Vince, #3 with the waterfalls is one of our favorites also, I was actually surprised that until you nobody has mentioned this one! Bled and Lake Bled was lovely, we heard about that place from our daughter that visited it probably 10 - 15 years ago and it had been on our to-do-list ever since. That castle Landskron came as a bit of a surprise: sort of like a "round hill" sticking out of a flat ground, with a steep drive up and then a steep walk for last 100 meters or so. Nice view from up there while we had lunch and saw all these people hanging up in the air above us, I was wondering whether they were studying the menu before coming down for a landing

That’s a neat castle in #9 and #10. Overall, a really beautiful area to visit.

It was a surprising, sudden, round hill in front of our eyes, the setting was great and so was the view, the castle itself wasn't too special, but maybe we didn't see all the right spots.
