With the abundance of posts lately depicting what I would call abstract photo art (manipulation?) I think Administration should consider a new section for this type of "art" which really has little to do with photography, but rather with one's skills using computer programs.

Hmmmm........yeah.
Kinda like the ones doin' the body work and pit crew work on keepin' a stock car in condition to make through the duration of the race, are not connected to the driver using another set of skills and experience to get to the checkered flag ahead of the other teams.

I get it now.

I don't think "abstract" appropriately describes the kinds of images you seem to be speaking of. Photographs can be "abstract" without any kind of manipulation. If you are speaking of the many composites, heavily processed, and AI-assist images we see on UHH, remember that there are already specialty sections like "Digital Artistry" and "AI Artistry and Creation". I personally think there are already way to many Sections in the UHH Forum.

... and a Post-Processing section.

Mr. Street, I don't think you'll see Admin investing any time in reviewing every single image that is posted to Photo Gallery to determine its qualifications as a "photograph," let alone whether it meets your definition of abstract art.

I think you should volunteer to manage a no POST-processing allowed section. Then everyone can make their adjustments using the camera's options, instead of wasting time on the computer

If we had a section for each and every word in the dictionary ... what a wonderful world it could be!

Which word are you going to volunteer to manage?

Another suggestion for the OP: create a buddy list of known SOOC badge-wearers, then use "Newest Topics" link at the top of this page to browse, and select the filter "Show from buddies only."

Question: where do you stand on black and white images? Asking for a friend.

Note that Black & White photography is a rage in our own section: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-140-1.html

But I wouldn't call the new section "Art".
Also, I would expect a large number of AI generated pix to still show up in the Photo Gallery while these skilled photogs bask in the glory of their remarkable photos.

No effects filters involved and none are really very unlike the subject as seen at the time of the exposure.

Each of UserID's images is recognizable as to what was "abstracted" vs Jackson Pollock brush dribbles. The abstracts are a form of Photo Art. Even Cubism is recognizable ... "Oh, that's two views of my Grandmother." When we look at Dali's famous painting and see it expresses our at times desperation. "Persistence of Memory is a 1931 painting by artist Salvador Dalรญ and one of the most recognizable works of Surrealism." Persistence of Memory is the one with the watch sagging over a tree limb.
What is a snapshot, what is a photo worth sharing, what is art from Realism to Dali, what is just smeared Pollock Pixels?

Back to the subject of the post...FL Streetrodder to be clear would you give us examples of specific images that bother you? I empathize with your feeling tone, but the world is flooded with "snapshots" you may prefer..That is why I stay away from the mundane UHH Gallery... People display what the camera recorded, not what makes good photography interesting enough to share. To display the photos should have shared interest universal to viewers... perhaps it is hard to define that. [yes, there are exceptions of great photos.}

"Times they are a changin" as Bob Dylan sang. So, Streetrodder don't stand in the doorway... go with the flow.
