I like to travel light: 24-105 and maybe the 50 mm. for low light. If you are into a heavier set up, the 16-35 2.8, 70-200 f4 and the 50mm for low light and street photography. Rarely would I use the 100-400, except maybe in the Sistine Chapel where photography is banned. As a side note, I recommend taking a small binocular set to look at the Sistine Chapel detail.

24-105 and 50 get my vote.

Seems like consensus, thank you

We were there this past November. You WILL take tons of photos, what a place. And you will likely walk. A lot. For me, I so wanted to take my larger Lumix G9 and lenses. I decided to go more compact and pocketable, so I took my Sony RX100 VII instead. I know that wasn't your question as such, but do consider a small quality camera.

If it were I, my first choice would be the 24-105. If I could squeeze another in it would be either the 50 or the 16-35. Have a good trip.

I’ve been to Italy and thereabouts many times. I concur with this recommendation. I do not agree with the 100-400 recommendations. You will be on the street, in churches and museums. All of which means wide. Of course, this is my preference, not dogma.

Fwiiw, do not underestimate the benefits of a mobile phone camera as a back up system. And it makes for a very robust photo processing and image back up system as well. LR Mobile, Snapseed and other programs do pretty well.

Here’s a link to a few shots I took a few years ago. If it will help. I’m working on my last Italy trip (where only a small Sony was used.) Note there are few museums or churches. We took this trip at the last minute so I didn’t do much research on happenings in Venice area. Well we get there and realized it was Carnivale! Festivals and fun times! So look up events to see what’s happening in the area. Don’t be a dope, like me! Safe travels to you.

Hello all, going to Italy mid- March for 2 weeks. What do you think would be the best lenses to take with me. Here are my current lenses; EF 16-35 F2.8, EF 70-200 F4, EF 50 F1.8, RF 100-400 F 5.6-8, and RF 24-105 F4-7.1. Will be mainly shooting the sites of Italy. Thanks in advance.

Went to Italy in September with my new Sony alpha 7R. I took a 35mm f1.4, which I love. Super sharpe and sees what my eye sees, Also a 70 - 200 with anti shake. This was great on ferry and boat rips. My all around was a 24-70 f2.8, just a great all around lense
