No, not at all. I've tried to think what it sounds like. It's very high-pitched.

Mine sounds like crickets in the night.

Mine started in Vietnam during my late '66 to Jan '69 tour (yes, I volunteered and stayed for 2 years) due a combination of loud noises (imagine that, in a war zone)...

Congress is looking into that - hearing and other damage done to military personnel by using their weapons.

I don't have tinnitus but I have noticed an interesting aural phenomenon: When listening to a constant tone, loud or soft, if I clench my teeth together hard, the tone changes. Not a lot, but it's noticeable.

Is this just me or does anyone else hear this? And if tinnitus gives you a constant tone, does it work on that?

They knew back then, on the range and training we were issued ear plugs. But plugging your ears in a war zone is not a good idea.

You are causing pressure and maybe even some distortion on the ear canal which will affect the cilia and auditory nerve.

It just adds the low, rumble sound of a V-16 Caterpillar engine running next to a heavy ocean surf, to all the cacophony that's already there, when I do that.

Congress can do what it wishes - except cure tinnitus. I started my tinnitus with excessive use of aspirin at a terrible job I once had. For updates on research - there has been quite a lot, lately, check TinitusTalk.com.

A recent series of infomercials are saying there is a link between tinnitus and alzheimer's disease. This kind of makes sense as the cilia are destroyed as is the brain by plaques and tangles. Between the tinnitus and prostate I cant hear whether I am coming or going. 😳

I, too, have Tinnitus. Like you it only bothers me when someone mentions it.
Crazy, huh?

I agree, the volume of my tinnitus increased by 50 Db.

These ads post absurd photos (spoons against ears, etc.) just to get you to click. They have NOTHING to do with the ad pitch.

Absurd? Are you sure that sticking a plastic bottle into your ear won't cure tinnitus? 😂

No ear plugs for us. In training, I put filters from filter cigarettes in my ears, but not a great help. In vietnam, we’d sometimes shoot until my ears would “ring” - almost deaf in my right one now. No fun, but lots of vets brought back way worse infirmities. I will note that over time, hearing aids seem to reduce tinnitus.

Compared to what I have from 2 years in the second most heavily sprayed area's exposure to Agent Orange, the Tinnitus is minor, even if more annoying.

I have a Rx from the audiologist for hearing aids. And though she is with Kaiser she told me the VA health plan is better for hearing aids, at least the ones she wrote me up for that can be adjusted to help cancel out the Tinnitus a bit better.
Now I just have to get together with VA.
