The Adamsky effect is not for everyone, many people do not like it. I do like it but the subject needs to yield itself to this effect. In your image the effect is just right.
At times, if the background is too colorful it can interfere with the main subject, desaturation is a most.

A very cool effect. I like it. But you have added extreme motion to a still scene. I rather see this with a race car or a sprinter.

I can tell you that the catcher's mitt is not from the 1930's. They were pretty much no more than a pillow with a round indentation in the middle. Now they are somewhat similar to a first baseman's glove
