My Nikon Z9, Sony a1 are not on the list. Oh no, I must not be a good photographer. I guess I will just have to muddle through life with what I have. So sad. I guess I will just have to be satisfied with what I can get out of my current camera's and dream about getting one that is in the top ten.

The twig he's holding isn't quite level, time for a Sony...πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

1) Sony A7CII
2) Sony A7IV Kit
3) Sony A7CII Kit
4) Sony A7RV
5) Sony A7IV
6) Nikon Z8
7) Canon EOS R6II
8) Nikon Zfc
9) Fujifilm X-T5
10) Canon EOS R50 kit

It looks like my 2 -1/2 year old Nikon Z fc is still in the top 10. Nice to see that it is still very popular. This retro camera body certainly is not everyone's cup of tea. As I've mentioned before, I use it almost entirely with prime lenses, most of which are manual focus only. It is the most enjoyable shooting experience I have ever had with a digital camera and I am very satisfied with the images I get with it.

Don't we need to keep this in perspective as we are taking about an Electronics appliance store... ? Camera store yes, but also a Stove and freezer store which ALSO sells Phone cams... Oh, The dreaded word again. Only 1.3 BILLION sold last year and BTW Apple now has the lead over Samsung ! WHO CARES, They All do a fine job, just like REAL cameras.

Everyone knows that absolutely NO great photographs have ever been captured with any cameras except for the ones at the top of this list. If you desire to be an acceptable photographer you must get rid of your old cameras and obtain a Sony A7CII. I don't have one and can't afford one so I am doomed to being a lesser photography hack.

Yep, nobody’s flagship cameras are on this list. Mostly β€œprosumer” level. Not surprising. I would expect them to have higher sales. I also question listing cameras separate from kits containing the same body.

Here is the list from one of the other top Japanese camera stores per 43rumors.com.

"Mapcamera (one of the largest store in Japan) shared the top selling cameras of December:

1st place: Ξ±7C II
2th place: Z f
3rd place: GR IIIx
4th place: Z 8
5th place: EOS R6 Mark II
6th place: Fuji X-T5
7th place: Ξ±7R V
8th place: OM-1
9th place: Ξ±7 IV
10th place: Ξ±6700"

Still shows Sony as the top seller but shows a little more diversity. It would be interesting to see the top ten camera stores of Japan and see what they say there sales were.
Here is the list from one of the other top Japanes... (show quote)

May I say you can have the most expensive camera and the best glass out there, but if you don't know what you are doing, or know how to use them, all is wasted.

As long as you are happy with the results using the cameras you have Joe, (and your Bird photos are great BTW) whatever camera you use is the best one out there. Mine are not there either.

Interesting to see the results reported in the OP and follow up comments. Sony appears to be strong...In the results in the OP, how much does the store staff influence the customers purchase decision. Does this skew the data?

I guess it would depend on the questions which are asked by the customer. Note that I've only purchased one high-end camera from a brick-and-mortar camera store, my Minolta XG-M back in 1982, and since I was already committed to Minolta, having invested in lens and flash units, the store clerk wouldn't have had much impact on my decision anyway.

My first two SLR's, a Minolta SR-1 and SRT-101, my brother got for me from the PX when he was in the Army. My Minolta X-700 (body) I bought used from a camera repair shop in 2002 when the XG-M died (froze-up). By the time I was serious about going digital, I was buying most of my stuff online, although I did buy some things at camera shops, like my Sony 10-18mm lens at Samy's Camera here in OC.

It's like the grudge matches at the drag strip. "Run what 'ya brung." I just shoot the cameras I have and don't worry about it. I will not buy a new camera unless something breaks. At 73 and looking at eleven on the shelf.... not likely to be buying anything. The ones already here are plenty of fun.
