There is a company that takes old non auto lenses and with the adapter make it an automatic lens the Company is called Techart and I believe you can find it on Amazon. And now for real old lenses are selling for $400 to $500.00 dollars and higher. eBay has been sending me Old Minolta lenses ask $400.00 to $500.00 dollars. I picked up the Nikon ZF boy do I love that camera I stopped using my Z8 and Z9 now I am thinking about getting the adapter. I also purchased the Nikon 24 to 50 Lens so small to complement the ZF I take it wherever I go.

...I wouldn't pay too much attention to December sales numbers because there's no way of knowing if the cameras were for self-use or as gifts. Better to look at numbers for March or April (June - July would see grad gifts)...

You could put up three photos, one taken with a Canon, another taken with a Sony and the third taken with a Nikon, all taken with a photographer that knows the camera and all the cameras are compatible. You wouldn't be able to tell which photo was taken with which camera.

Gear helps. Surveys are fun for discussion. But in most instances, it is not the wand, it’s the magician. Without question there are photographers on this site with pictures taken using a Nikon F2 that I couldn’t match with the very best equipment now available.

My camera was NOT on the list, but the brand (Sony) was, which at least gives me some level of confidence that they're doing OK and that my investment in hardware was not a mistake

It is perfectly ok if you dont care.

Trust me the camera makers DO care how they are doing in the marketplace. Maybe if your brand does well, they will still be around in business long enough to support your gear with parts and repairs if needed, in this shrinking worldwide camera market.

Cheers and best to you.

That isn't the question I asked here.

FYI I have used the best of Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica and more in my 50 years as a pro.

Cheers and best to you.

A lot depends on what camera is favored by the store owners and sales staff as well as what has the highest profit margin. Or, it could be based on which cameras result in the highest customer satisfaction or the best features. Since we don't know the answers we should choose the cameras WE like, not what someone else likes.

I once entered a camera store in Erie, PA to purchase a DSLR Nikon. The store representative talked me into buying an Olympus E-1. I stuck with Olympus 4/3 cameras until they discontinued the entire E series product line and introduced the micro 4/3 models. Then, I had a whole collection of really fine lenses an no new camera body models. I was stuck at 12 MP and no upgraded features.

I wish there were an adapter to use those Zuiko lenses on my Canon R7.

Yodobashi sales figures that have been shared here in UHH before, do show a diversity of camera brands doing well in Japan. It doesn't look like Yodobashi is favoring any one brand over another. More likely customer preferences for a variety of reasons, perhaps including widest mirrorless lens availability of over 200 lenses for the E-mount from Sony and third party lens makers .

Cheers and best to you.

The Yodobashi numbers have been posted here in UHH frequently, and Sony, Nikon and Canon were all represented in the top ten back in the spring 2023.

Cheers and best to you.

That is ok, I loved using my Nikon F2 in my 50 year-long pro career using Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica and more.

But that really isn't what this thread is about. It is about how the brands are doing in business. You want your brand to do well enough so they are still in business in this shrinking worldwide market, so they can still support your gear with parts and repairs if needed down the road.

Cheers and best to you.

Good points. I usually look at these articles as fodder for brand bashing or bragging, which is one of the most common UHH consistencies. I don’t see any of the major companies disappearing.

My Nikon Z9, Sony a1 are not on the list. Oh no, I must not be a good photographer. I guess I will just have to muddle through life with what I have. So sad. I guess I will just have to be satisfied with what I can get out of my current camera's and dream about getting one that is in the top ten.
