I have several folder in my LR catalog that mirror the folders in Bridge. When syncing folders in LR to those in Bridge' most will sync and update but others will cause LR to stop responding and require a force quit. I'm using the latest versions of all software and the latest Mac OS. Any ideas ?
I don't understand the question.
Bridge is a file browser. It sees the folders on your drive like Windows Explorer or Mac Finder. Light room Classic need to be told the folder exists and that you want to include it in the database by importing it.
What do you mean by "syncing"?
If you move folders in Bridge lightroom classic won't know where they are. If you move folders in Lightroom they move in Bridge too.
The folders are actually on an external HD (not Bridge, my bad) but if you right click the folder in LR there is an option to "sync" it with the folders on the HD. Most folders will sync (update with any added or deleted images) but others will cause LR to lockup and stop responding. Could a bad image file in the folder be causing the problem ?
Are you dropping new files into a folder that already exists in LRc and then syncing? Maybe try to import the new items in using the "Add" option.
The only time I've used that sync option is if during an edit outside of Lightroom i did a save as to get another copy then wanted the new copy to be in the library. A very rare thing.
I have no idea. But a question (sincerely trying to help). If you have and use LR, why not use it to its fullest potential? I am flummoxed by people using multiple ways to manage files, folders and the like. In this case you have apparently competing programs with incongruent folders and files. This created chaos, more work than necessary, difficulty in backing up and finding files. In my former life we called this FUBAR.
I use LR exclusively. My folder layout, if I look in Explorer, is exactly like what I see in LR. Simplify simplify simplify.
John Bogle, perhaps the greatest influence on personal finance ever, said that investing is simple…but it may not be easy. Bruce Lee said that the Way is to simplify by taking the unnecessary away. Was it Ty Cobb who, when asked about his batting success simply said, “hit it where they ain’t.” Simple. Not easy.
Seek the elegant solution and skip the rest. Suggest you use LR, do all file movement in LR and only LR. Simple, but not necessarily easy. Don’t synch with bridge or anything else. Problem solved.
