Adobe double charges

I recently did an audit of my credit cards and found that Adobe had been double charging me for my Lightroom/photoshop subscription for over a year. There were actually two separate line items for the monthly charge so I should have caught it earlier, but I somehow overlooked it. At first I thought maybe I had signed up for two accounts but that was not the case. I called Adobe and they admitted they had been double billing me for the same account. They would not give me any more information when I asked them how that happened. They said they would credit my card for the double billing and I just received the credit. But from the casual tone of the conversation and quick resolution offered, I got the impression that this must be somewhat common. So check your subscription fees more often then I do.

Followup Chadp...

In the last several years, I have been the victim of 'identity theft' for a host of reasons...
... Although, I have - in fact - NOT lost any money, the time that I have consumed is horrendous

Because of the above, my four (yes 4) credit score accounts have been 'locked' down for a long time,
... And, I make it proactive to NOT, leave any CC on File in the 'wallets' of any online companies (except 1)

In addition to the above, especially with Adobe, I buy the 1-year subscription plan during Black Friday
... And get a discount without having to put a card on file...

YES... Just a different way of doing things, BUT, this 'On-Line Stuff' is getting under my skin, and the older I get, and the more 'tech' we see, the more I just want to crawl in a hole and hide from the outside world...

One more answer to the above, and something which I have done, is to sign up for one of the 'data removal services' which we are starting to see more and more of today... Heck, it was only $44 bucks for 1st year... and came recommended by NordVPN which I am a member of........... So, I said, what the heck, and just give it a try...

Let's see...

Cheers

Might be someone in billing was doing this to a lot of accounts and diverting the duplicate payments to themselves.
And they are too embarrassed to admit they had a crook skimming from them for a year before they caught him/her.
So they just mumble something and credit the money when someone else contacts them.

Wouldn't it be a laugh if it was someone in their CyberSecurity section?

It was less complicated when we could buy those editors.

You don't check your credit card bill EVERY month? Wow. You'd be the perfect victim for scam artists.

I agree. This is one reason I will NOT do anything with my phone. It's just one more item for which I have to buy protection or monitor. The internet is a cesspool for scammers.

Your situation is precisely why I stay away from services suggesting or requiring payment be linked directly to a credit card. They make a mistake, try to call them out on it! The only solution for me then was to get a new credit card issued with a new number. Monthly subscription services, they can ping you for a new rate anytime they feel like. Sorry I am so old fashioned; send me a paper statement and I will write a check as payment.

I go on line and check my credit cards about once a week looking for anything out of the ordinary. It can take a little time but have caught enough mistakes, etc., to make it worth the time. I've caught four fraud attempts and had the money refunded to me totaling a couple of thousand dollars. I change passwords and do all the (right) things but it does happen. Better safe than sorry.

Some credit cards (I mostly use Capital One) allow a virtual card. Each vendor charged on-line has a unique credit card number. If spurious charges occur, at least I only need to look at one vendor, and only close that one vendor’s card number. That means I don’t have to get a new credit card number and start over.

Example I bought a few things from TEMU the chinese company. You think I want china having my creditcard numbers? I think not.
