If I post in a thread it gets watched. I rarely watch threads I don't post in. Once or twice a week I go through and unwatch things that have run their course.

Similar, but I review what I'm watching almost daily.
I rarely have more than 6-8 that I'm watching.

My wife and I bought e-bikes and went through a lot to store the batteries over the winter. The bike mfr. posted a list of dos and don'ts about storage in the off season.

Don't they make snow tires for EB's?....

Boy, there is a lot of bad news online about EVs. Fires are a real problem because they can start spontaneously. One house was destroyed when a Mercedes burned. The car was a loaner from the dealer while her own Mercedes was being serviced. Another house was severely damaged when a Tesla burst into flames. Water is useless for putting out lithium fires. Fire departments use special blankets costing $3k - $5k to smother the fire. They then haul the car away in a procession with police and fire engines. They leave the blanket on for a day or more to keep oxygen from letting the fire restart.

Sales are tanking, with dealers having EVs sit on their lots. Charging away from home typically costs more than filling the tank with gas. When many cars are charging from the same station, the amount of charge going to each car is reduced proportionally. A reported rented an EV to do a story on it. During a long trip, she said she spent more time charging the car than sleeping. The car got more "recharging" than she did. Replacing the battery can cost more than the car - $60,000 for a $55,000 Hyundai. Car makers are starting to produce their own batteries so they won't be at the mercy of battery makers. Still, with a limited supply of lithium, prices will continue rise. Reliability is an issue because the car is basically running on software, and you know how reliable that can be. Repairs can be ridiculously expensive.

I never had any interest in buying an EV, but now I'm dead set against them. Give me gas any day. (Enter a humorous comment here.)

A friend had an EV, but he sold it and bought a pickup truck. He didn't go into details.

Purchased a '23 Ford F-150 Powerboost (Hybrid) and never did or would ever consider an EV. Just took a 5400 mile Christmas trip from FL thru TX, NM, UT up to CO and back and got ~23 mpg. Some bad weather, tall mountains, a lot of snow/ice and was totally comfortable in this land yacht. Nope, never would consider an EV but I do believe hybrid is the current answer, for me at least.

I have 6,576 on my Watch list. I'll have to delete one or two.

Geeze!

At that point I'd select a few I really want to watch, bookmark them or open each in their own window, click on select all in the main list, delete selected, re-watch the desired ones.

I think I would do that with the most recent 75 or so and delete all the rest since by this time I would have forgotten what the old ones were all about.

And Hertz is selling their inventory (~20,000) EVs.
They decided they don't want them either........

(So glad I didn't buy into it.)

Repair costs were too high also.

Those cars don't work when the temps get down to -0. What a hassle!

It’s -8 here in sunny central Wisconsin and I am already in my Nissan Leaf. While it was in my garage I turned on my My Nissan app on my phone and turned the heat on. It was a comfortable 72 degrees when I got in. The steering wheel was still a little chilly so I turned the steering wheel heater on and before I got out of the driveway my hands could feel the heat. I’ll probably put on 50 miles today running around and several places I will stop at will already have parking lot chargers to plug into. I hope that when the rest of you Luddites travel around you eventually find the 21st century.

As another Hog posted on here a little while back. " In 10 or 15 years you won't be able to give one away."

I wouldn't want one even if it was free.

The issue with hybrids is that you have two separate and complete systems that you have to maintain. You have the petroleum system and the electrical system which require regular mantenance.

True. But with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy system, over the course of 207,000+ miles on a 2009 Prius, our cost per mile is the lowest of any vehicle we have ever owned. That cost — currently at 41.3 cents per mile — includes all repairs, maintenance, cost of the car, insurance, taxes, fuel, tires, etc.… everything but carwashes. About the only car that I'm aware of that comes close to that level of economy is a Honda Fit.

HV battery health is still good. Our other Priuses (another 2009, (totaled in 2019), two 2010s (one totaled in 2019), and a 2015 Prius V) have all been similarly economical and reliable. The 2015 V has a horrible OEM radio in it, but that's our only major annoyance with any of them. At this point, they're all paid for and the three we still own run fine.

The amount of worry about hybrids must come from other manufacturers' lackluster efforts. Toyota hybrids are rock solid. Brakes last 90,000 to 125,000 miles, in our experience, because the car uses the electric motor-generator for regenerative braking. It turns kinetic energy into battery charge as you stop, relieving the need for friction braking. Spark plugs last 120,000 miles. The engine runs only to charge the battery, keep itself warm (for efficiency) or to assist with heavy acceleration or high wind resistance at highway speeds. If you change oil every 5000 miles, it just keeps on running. There is NO starter. There is NO alternator. HVAC is electric. The HV battery gets the car rolling, and the engine starts when needed. Most of the time, when the engine is warm, it shuts off at traffic lights, then starts up at 12 MPH or so.

The key to Prius HV battery longevity is to keep the car moving. Don't let it sit undriven for more than a week.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how other EVs stack up against the Prius. I'm too lazy to do the research.
