-55C in Cambridge Bay about 50 years ago and dead calm... is the coldest I've experienced... lots of -40C stuff. It doesn't matter if C or F at -40. They converge. It was -35C on our wedding day. Recent weather could be an indication of what is to follow, with climate change. The extremes could get a lot worse. The summation of the temperatures below zero is called the 'freezing index' and is a measure used for designing for cold weather. The freezing index for Winnipeg is/was greater than for Moscow.
windchill
noun
wind·chill ˈwin(d)-ˌchil
: a still-air temperature that would have the same cooling effect on exposed human skin as a given combination of temperature and wind speed
called also chill factor, windchill factor, windchill index
the -55C was without wind chill... it was dead calm.
It’s interesting that when the temp is 20 degrees below average in January, the media crows “climate change!” When it’s 20 degrees above average in August, the media screams “global warming!” When it’s 20 degrees above average in January and 20 degrees below average in August, the weatherman comments on what a beautiful day it was!
I still say that people view climate change like Goldilocks did her porridge; if you’re too hot or too cold, it’s climate change. If you’re nice and comfortable, it’s a beautiful day.
Weather is subjective. The rancher hates the snowstorm that has the National Guard helicoptering in hay to his cattle. The ski resort owner loves the same snowstorm because he knows people will still be skiing in May.
Sitting in Lambeau Field watching the Green Bay Packers play the Dallas Cowboys in the Ice Bowl. It really warmed up at the end of the game!

You simply have to look at the current weather around the world during the last year to see that there is a bit of a change. Climate change may be happening.
For me it was -52° in Yellowknife NWT in Canada.

...and you can see the ice crystals hanging in the air. Hopefully it was dead calm.
Well, it is minus nine degrees (F) here in Missouri and I'm waiting for the first polar bear to come trundling down my street. Camera is ready!
You need a ziplock bag to put your camera in when you bring it in from the cold... just a caution.
Not going outside! I'll just shoot the bear or the Eskimos from a clean window!
Prospect Creek ,Alaska. _ 84 below zero no wind factor. I worked on the pipeline
New Year's Day 1994 in Biwabik MN.
- 40 with a 40 mph wind. Was on a ski trip. We hit the slopes at noon when it "warmed up" to -20.

Back in the late 70's or early 80's I was visiting a friend in Rehoboth Beach, DE. The temp was substantially below zero degrees, and as far as you could see the ocean was frozen. They say that saltwater does'nt freeze, well obviously it does...to a degree. That was cold

Eielson AFB, Fairbanks, AK, 1962: -65 actual temp!
Right there with you then, 4 1/2 miles Steese Hiway north of Fairbanks. -60 or more that's as far as the thermometer went. Still have it over on the counter. Went to a function at Eielson back then in the winter, sure did like the heated floors in the hanger, real nice.
