I just found out that the Chiefs playoff game tonight will only be available via streaming Peacock. I gotta say that this really makes me mad, as I don't have Peacock and don't even have a way to stream it on my big screen tv even if I did sign up for it. Frankly, I see this as a move toward having to pay to watch all sports and hope they have a very poor response and that others are upset about this as well. It was bad enough that the Thursday night games were restricted, but everyone should get to see the playoff games and they make plenty of money putting them on network TV. Is this really the future of sports on TV?

I think Bison Bud's right; Peacock must have paid the NFL a boatload of money and personally, I hope they lose their shirts over this deal. Does Peacock make its customers suffer through advertising? I could see paying a streaming service a fee for non-advertisement programming considering how network TV loads the football games with so many ads you sometimes forget what teams you're watching.

Non advertisement programming, especially for sports, might just be something I'd pay extra for, but I doubt it will ever happen. Frankly, the cable companies and streaming services having been double dipping in this area since their inception and I don't see that changing any time soon. On Air TV survives on selling commercials without subscriptions and other charges and they have been around for a long time. Frankly, the fact that they still exist proves that the sales of commercial spots are indeed the primary source of income in all of broadcasting and I doubt that they will ever move away from that scenario completely. However, times do appear to be changing!

I listened to Chiefs network radio. They just won 26-7. It was brass monkey football, the 4th coldest game on record. There were two shirtless fools there as well. Andy Reid's mustache frosted over. I agree with you about restricting the games. Peacock was putting out pretty sweet offers, I hope enough people were able to resist the temptation.

I resisted.

We watched the Chiefs game, but I don't believe we pay for Peacock streaming. They do have free programs and that must have been one of them (?)

Peacock is owned by NBC and is struggling. So, NBC used its contract for the game to shift it to Peacock, hoping to sign up a lot of new subscribers. Hope it fails.

That “boatload” is supposedly $110m.

If they do this for the Super Bowl, it might be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Makes no difference. You will always be able to go to the stadiums.

I don’t think that’s an accurate statement. The number of seats is finite and most seats are controlled by season ticket holders. The number of TV fans exceeds the number of available seats by far. On any given Sunday there might be 800,000 stadium seats in use. That number would get lost in the rounding of TV viewers.

If we found out who the sponsors were and refused to buy from them, they would eventually get the message. Could/will that happen? Most likely not. I can tell you though, you absolutely can vote for how businesses conduct themselves by simply not shopping with them. Back in the late 50s/early 60s, Hostess decided to raise their prices. They said they had not had a price increase in eight years and raised the price of their cupcakes and other items from 10 cents to 15 cents. People reacted to the 50% increase and simply quit buying Hostess. A month later, the price was rolled back to 12 cents and business resumed. Now companies are smarter and do incremental increases over a few months, or they keep prices the same and reduce the amount they give you (shrinkflation).

Major League Soccer did it this year. The only way to get most of their games is to subscribe to Apple TV and then subscribe to MLS.

I hate this idea. I haven't heard how they've done viewer wise but, I'm praying it was a bust.

I only subscribe to Peacock to watch the English Premier League soccer. Because of that I was able to see the Dolphins-Chiefs game.

I think it was 110 billion, or maybe 110 million??? Doesn't really make any difference up in those stratospheres does it? Let's see ...Maybe Bezos could boycott NBC and ... or maybe he could just buy up a few NFL franchises and start his own league or maybe we could all just relax and watch AGT or Survivors and fall asleep in front of the TV like our cat does!

I thought about signing up just to see the game, then canceling, then thought better of it and skipped the whole thing.

Up here in the Great White North (Canada that is) we had very few problems catching the KC vs Miami game. It was carried nationally on one of our main carriers CTV for basically all to view. It was also carried nationally by three of our Sports Channels (TSN-1, TSN-3, and RSD) . At ieast one of the first two is part of most of the TV packages that most Canadians have. The third Sports Channel is broadcast in French only. As for myself I did not have the time to watch the whole game so l opted to catch the miniaturized version on Da-Tube. Roughly 15 minutes after the game ended I spent about 20 minutes watching all the good parts that were worthy. That’s all I needed 😃😃😃
