Then we can only speculate on what their objection was, or whether you're nuts.
Agree we need more info. Maybe the color profile?
Probably, they want to do their own PS or LightRoom per their standards

I recently received a mobile phone headshot photo from a friend who was having a book published. I did some PP with PS and Topaz, created a jpg version and sent it back to my friend for submission to the publisher.
The publisher told her she needed an unadjusted image, because PS images have a “filter” that they can’t use.
Has anyone heard of this or can anyone provide an explanation?
Call the publisher direct and get the answer.
If you use Quote Reply, we would know who you are giving thumbs up to.
Since a number of you asked for the original and PP images, I thought it would be appropriate for you all to see the work.
Also, I do want to speak with the publisher, but it's not my book, so I'm waiting on my friends return to discuss calling them and getting their requirements. I do know they have certain size (pixel based) requierments, which are easy to adjust, but I do hope to get a better understanding of their other needs/wants.
Here are the 2 images.
Thanks for any further thoughts or input.
This was the original via cellphone and sent by text.

Obviously nothing radical has been done. It just looks a little better than the original. I would contact the publisher directly and ask what is the problem.

Frank, it’s my friends book, I have no idea who the publisher is, so I need the info from her. It is my intention to speak with them. Thanks.
It could be that's their polite way of saying that the photo isn't good enough to go on one of their books. It's not your editing that's at fault - it's the original phone camera photo.

If that's the case, they should just say so and not make up some nonsense about it being "filtered".

I’ve offered to take the actual photo for my friend, but she wanted it quickly and had her husband use his phone. It was a terrible shot all around. Perhaps she’ll rethink my offer.

That could save a lot of embarrassment all round.

The term 'filtered' is commonly used these days to describe a picture that does not look natural.
