I wonder how do you update the firmware of a lens? You have to mount it on a camera or something?

Under Firmware Version on my Z50 with lens attached it shows
C 2.50
LF 1.00
I'll guess that LF might be the lens update. Remove the lens and LF disappears.

Yes, you mount the lens on a camera. There are basic instructions on the Nikon website and more detailed instructions in a PDF you can download or open from the Nikon website. The process is similar to updating the firmware on a camera; but with a lens, you would of course need to attach a camera to the lens.
