I am considering entering some bird photos in a contest. do you think any of these are contest worthy. Be honest please, criticism doesn't bother me. Thanks in advance.

the white-breasted nuthatch is the only one of interest. there is minimal background distraction, posture is natural and the plumage is striking

2 and 5 seem the best to me.

Consider using the Bird section in the future, where this post will eventually be moved.

Look more critically at your results. Only the final image appears in sharp focus, as well as well-composed with the bird looking at the camera. That final image might benefit from a better cropping, taking off some of the extra space at the top of the frame, maybe changing to a 1x1 (square) aspect ratio.

The last shot is your best.

The nuthatch or the cow bird.
I like the others but I believe there’s too much going on in the background that is distracting me.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks guys, I really don't shoot birds per say, these are just some random shots taken around the house and personally I dont think any of them will do. Thanks anyway!

Pat, is contest one with which the photographers will not be involved or is it more of camera club situation where the results can be discussed among the members. If the latter, I'd say submit the Whitebreasted Nuthatch and the Brownheaded Cowbird, and then learn from the suggestions and criticisms and enjoy the camraderie of the discussion.

Nice set. Are you entering a club or open contest? Whichever make sure you understand the rules. I like the Nuthatch, but find the light areas on the left a distraction. If by chance these are blurs of a fence or other man made structures you would be DQ' d in a nature or burd competition.

The one I think best is #6, I would crop a little from the top to eliminate the brighter area. Make sure the image fits the size limitations if the contes.

Hope this helps. And let us know how you get on.
