Yes, I agree learning something new shouldn't be stressful. Unfortunately the road has been bumpy lately so no need to add a further obstacle. Maybe once the dust settles there will be more of a desire.

When you change to shooting a mirrorless camera, you already know you're a better photographer.

For the longest time I had resisted switching to mirrorless; both my D7100 and D850 delivered when I was hunting for photo ops out West and in the Pac NW. Then I got an invitation to attend a private event that featured a Nikon ambassador who just so happened to have the newly announced Z8 at his disposal. I got to chat one on one with him during the event as well. I drove home thinking about a Z8 and knowing that my first trip ever to Alaska was beginning to come into focus. I took both the D850 and Z8 to Alaska; after the second day I hardly touched the D850. Stated simply, I find the Z8 more "fun" to use; not sure why but that is how I feel. You are never too old to learn something new; that I believe! I am in my 70s and would like to get back to Alaska if at all possible.

I read this and start thinking about it in regards to my camera gear. Currently it seems the emphasis of most people is to get rid of their digital gear and get mirrorless gear. I don't have that desire at present. I feel like I still don't know how to use what I have correctly yet. So I will concentrate on learning how to use what I have and be glad I have all of it.
Just a few thoughts on the start of a new chapter of my life. I hope all have joyous days and long life.

FYI: Mirrorless ILC is digital. Happily rejoicing over mirrorless digital since 2001.

Why at 74 is there any stress at all in learning something new?
Age should never be a factor to learning.

At 90 I'm still learning. But I see no need for me to go mirrorless. Yet.

These discussions are interesting and illustrates the variety of interests and opinions about photo gear.

I made the switch to Olympus MFT gear in 2017 due to a shoulder injury that made my Canon 5D II and L series lenses challenging to hold for any period of time. I have used my Olympus gear extensively and are very happy with it. I held off on upgrades to the EM1 III and the newer OM-1 until this week and decided that a refurbished EM1 III was a logical choice. I like the control dial arrangement better.

In the past prior to digital, the changes in camera models were slower, and the big change in the early '80s was auto exposure and then auto focus features. For a long time, everyone said the Pros won't go this direction, but did. Then the same happened with digital conversion from film. When will the pros go digital? And now, when will the Pros go mirrorless? It is happening or will happen. But, DSLRs still work fine and will continue for a long time.

Fine, you just are using the lame excuse of age.

Pros have pretty much all gone mirrorless.

As others have said…there is no real reason one has to switch to mirrorless…DSLRs still take great pictures even though we won’t see any new bodies or lenses or firmware updates. There are reasons to switch…but they’re more to do with better tech than the existence or not of a mirror. Better sensors mean lower noise. Faster processors mean faster FPS and better AF with eye detect and all of that. EVF has some advantages as well. New lenses are designed with better optical software and thus generally better and lighter across the board (at least with Nikon, I don’t use the other brands). Most of those are simply the advancement of technology. More customization options also abound…driven by the better processors. Precapture if you care about that, etc, etc.

Every person needs to decide on their own based on needs, wants, budget and a whole raft of other factors whether it is worth it. Even though none of us have completely mastered our DSLRs…the better tech and features and FPS usually produces more good images on the memory card…and that’s what it’s all about anyway…after taking the aforementioned raft of factors into account.

There’s no wrong decision here.
