I have a Sony A77 and a Nikon D7000 as well as a D3s, and for lugging around I mostly use the A77 due to weight and efficiency. I second everything Brucej67 says. You will love it!

I think you will find the the Electronic viewfinder to be of great help because it lets you see right then and there what you will get before you depress the shutter button. This will help you to avoid blowouts for example. Another nice thing is that in low light, it will allow you to see things that the naked I can not. Pretty cool.
In addition, you will notice that the I.Q is superb. It is just as good as any other brand and as you already know, The other brands all have excellent I.Q's also.
The last thing that you may not know is that you can use Minolta AF lenses on it with excellent results. So, instead of spending $1,300.00 on a new lens, you can buy the same thing in Minolta for $13.00. I did just that thing about a month ago. I spent $10.00.
Another person on this forum just bought the a77 last week. She spent about a year doing her homework on it and she already knows how to shoot, but when she was just testing it out in auto, her jaw dropped! I am sure she will be posting the real deal pretty soon.

I am curious, which Minolta lenses have you used?
Congratulations on your a77.
The joke in my camera club is that they elected me president because I was not partial to either Canon or Nikon. I have used Minolta, Konica/Minolta, and Sony cameras since the early 1970's. I have yet to be disappointed.
More recently I have been shooting with the a350 and the a55. I too have my new a77 body sitting under the Christmas tree. I'm looking forward to tomorrow and so is my wife...she gets my a55. (Don't worry...I have a surprise for her also).
Just remember, it is the photographer that envisions the image. The camera is simply the tool that the photographer uses to capture what he/she envisions.
Merry Christmas!
Quality old Minolta "G" lenses are just as expensive on eBay as new Sony "G" lenses of its class.

I have one of the first Sony A100's and still use it every day. Sony makes very good equipment. I shot Minolta before going digital. My old, old old A100 has never gave me any problems.
I am sold on all Sony's.

Ebay is the biggest running Joke. I have purchased from Pawn shops, consignment shops, Estate sales. There is one Minolta lens that has been eluding me and that is the 400mm zoom. On Ebay it is going for a lot of money. I am sure that I can find it elsewhere much, much cheaper.
It's good to hear more from Sony owners. I own the a77 also and I love it.I have nothing against Canon or Nikon because I know they are excellent cameras also having their own strengths also.It just depends on your individual needs. Enjoy what you have and don't try and make others feel bad or dissapoited in what they own just because it isn't your cup of tea.

Hi everyone, I just purchased a new Sony a77 and was wondering does anyone have any good or bad news? I have always used Canon and my last was 40D.
Thanks
Welcome to the future of photography, as for the back up just read of the problems of the D600 and read how nikon treats its customers and was it canon who altered all its lens fittings. Enjoy your camera and welcome to the club.

sorry double posted (but always worth repeating yourself about Sony)
I love my Sony A77 .I belong to a camera club were most have Canon and Nikon cameras while those who use Sony never have the problems that they complain about when we do a shoot.
Make sure you have version 6 , it allows you to shut off the movie button which large fingers some times push.
I have the Canon 7D but a friend of mine has the A77. From what I can tell, the A77 is one fantastic camera. From a technology standpoint, the A77 cannot be beat.
when I was ready to switch from film -I had a Cannon AE1- to digital I had no idea what I wanted to buy. Photo magazines where then claiming Sony had the camera of the year so I went with the Alpha 100 have now upgrade to the A65. I really do love it and it does everything I feel I need it to do, and won't be upgrading for a long time to come--just maybe some new lenses!
have fun with yours
Congratulations on your new a77, it s a great camera. I have been using Sony for quite a while starting with the a200, then the a700 and now using the a77. I am now saving to upgrade to the full frame a99. The only issue I have with Sony is the lens selection and the price of the new lenses. The new f4 500mm is priced way out of reach as is the300 f2.8 but I have found that the third party lenses are excellent and produce excellent images. I have been very happy with the Sigma 500mm f4.5 and I am going to get Sigma 300mm f2.8in the new year.
Enjoy your new camera and don't let anyone tell you it is in any way inferior to the big 2. Nikon uses Sony sensors.
Merry Xmas to all.
