I’m a D850 user for many years. Been considering mirrorless. Nikons refurb sale has both the Z8 and Z7ii. Opinions on which is better choice? I’m an amateur with general shots. Kids sports, landscapes; no main topics. Yes price is relevant but I tend to hold on to cameras for a long time, so it’s not as relevant as which camera performs better.
it would be good if you started your own thread for this rather than hijack this thread.

The Z8 can AF the Sony lens? If not then does it really matter how fast it can write to the card?
My lesser Zs can do it so I expect the Z8 can.
Acoarst one should always buy any converter where hassle-free returns are the known rule. I use about ten non-OEM AF converters and I returned a few along the way.

I'm in your same situation. You will find the Z8 much closer to your D850. The Z7ii has the consumer operator interface.

Also you think it would AF and write to card faster than an A1?

Wow yes that's a tough choice. If I didn't pick up the Z7ii refurb this past summer I would have gone with the Z8 refurb for about another $1000...I would have never dreamed that a Z8 refurb would come down to $3200 so quickly...I would have waited. The Z7ii is great for landscapes and general photography other than the fastest action. The Z8 would have more longevity and offers more bang for the buck (Expeed 7 vs dual Expeed 6). If you can afford it without breaking the bank, causing a divorce, mortgaging the house or having to pawn your spouses jewelry, starving, etc., I would go with the Z8 which is the closest comparable to the D850 over the Z7ii. Today is the last day of the refurb sale and I think they still have it.
There is another option, perhaps not to your liking, is waiting for the Z6iii. The only drawback is the 24 MP sensor that is expected, if you are used to the crop ability of the 45 MP sensors. The Z6iii will have the same or similar engine as with the Z8/9, so keeping up with the kids sports won't be an issue. I think the expected price new will be under $3k, probably around $2400-2700. It should be announced shortly by Nikon in the next couple of months.
Thank you! Another stick to chew. Much appreciated.

Thank you. Thought I had done that. Not a frequent poster here.
Everything that I have read on that adapter says that it is great. No problems.
