I have learned through the years, that one never knows what going to happen, or what you are going to see and be able to photograph, until you go do it. Such was the case in 2008 when I went down to shoot some sheep photos and got this unusual shot. Sometimes the stars line up.

That photo was taken in Utah County in 2008. I went down to take photos of some sheep and just happened capture that bull elk, who was on the cliff above us.

Since that time, most if not all the sheep have died off in that area. Wild sheep are very susceptible to disease and when they come into contact with domestic sheep, which host several diseases they have built an immunity to, the wild sheep many times get sick and die, as their bodies immune system can not combat the disease of domestic sheep.

Have a good one. BB

Here's a bit more about that shot. I was actually taking photos of a pretty nice ram and wanted to move so I could get a few of the ewe, which was up hill of me. I moved over to the get the shot and I could see antler tips moving and the bull walked up in sight, just as I was getting ready to take the ewe's photo.

Here's a photo of the antlers I saw before the bull made his full presence known.

A local TV station in our area ran a weekly outdoors show and they had a photo contest and a very nice prize, donated by one of the show's sponsor's and that photo won me and double burner, large stove from Camp Chef!

And here's the ram whose photo I had been taking. Notice close his nose. At the time I took this photo this ram was already infected and was ultimately doomed.

Thanks Billy. What a shot! I didn't know about the sheep diseases decimating the bighorn population, but the real lesson here is that I should get my but off the couch and find some photos.

Bill, those are fantastic shots, in the first one you can see every little detail like the surface of the snow under the rams photo. A shot like this belongs in Nat'l Geo. All of them are great photographs, very glad the stars lined up for you. Have a great holiday and by all means keep posting

tad1937. I don't know if you have seen my almost daily post or not, but if you like wildlife and haven't, check it out. I post at least one new photo a day and sometime more. Let me know what you think!
