There is no way you can remove every body in 90 sec .To be licensed to fly , the test was 2 1/2 minutes to get every body out with all shuts working .

It's been done many times.

What is the time limit for aircraft emergency evacuation?
Emergency Evacuation on Land | SKYbrary Aviation Safety
As part of the certification process, aircraft manufacturers are required to demonstrate that an aircraft, in maximum density configuration, can be completely evacuated within 90 seconds using only half of the total number of emergency exits.

Each time I board an airliner, I look around to see where the folks are sitting that may pose an obstacle to a quick and safe emergency exit. Although there are several emergency exits, the aisle fits one person and the blocked aisle can cause a stampede of cursing bodies frantically rushing to get out.

That is why during the safety briefing they say to leave all personal belongings behind. An over the shoulder purse can become a hazard to quickly evacuating an aircraft. Keep your id on you and your cell phone in a holster/carrier at all times, everything else is replaceable except your life. Everyone should be focusing on survival if they are able.

We vacationed in Japan in November. I was impressed by Japanese culture of following rules. The fact that nobody tried bringing their bags and other stuff saved lives. I have to wonder if we Americans would do the same.

I’ve often wondered why they don’t have traffic lights on the runways.

Because the Tower/ATC tells you what to do. It is coming out that the Military aircraft refused to listen to the Tower/ATC instructions, and that is what caused the crash.

So sad. When on a landing plane, you mentally think you made it and then, the unthinkable happens. I'm happy for the saved lives and sad for those who died.

I saw one report quoting someone in s9me sort of official and aircraft related capacity in Japan that the Coast Guard plane did not have permission to take off yet…which infers it should not have been on the runway…probably. Nothing definite though. It’s a bit hard to believe tha5 the Airbus crew couldn’t see the blinking lights on the runway in front of them…but maybe they get lost among the 10,000 other assorted lights. From my experience on the submarine…its really hard to identify the running lights on a carrier or cruise ship from the gazillion other lights…which makes it really hard to decide which side you’re seeing and thus which way it is going…so it wouldn’t surprise me if airport lights caused a similar issue.

Calm passengers who have been carefully briefed might be able to evacuate in 90 seconds…but panicked run of the mill passengers who are going to stop and grab carry ons I think would never make the limit or even close to it. Otherwise…it wouldn’t take 10 minutes to get off at the gates.

Unlikely…Japanese culture is different from any other I’ve ever encountered…scrupulously polite and rule following…so they might be able to achieve the goal but your typical westerners…nah.

They do in Gibraltar…but that’s because the highway crosses the runway and the lights are for the cars and trucks.

It is too early to tell. The cause of any incursion must be evaluated by the NTSB. The fact that fire was viewed outside the plane MAY indicate that the Airbus engine(s) were damaged. As for the Coast Guard plane it MAY have had mechanical failure. Thank G-D the Airbus landed. I am sorry to learn of the loss of life.

Well in this case the NTSB isn't involved. It's the JTSB the primary agency that does the investigation. The French BEA and Airbus also involved because it's a French made aircraft. Canadian TSB also involved because the Dash 8 is Canadian made. If it's a Boeing aircraft then the NTSB does have some involvement but in this case none.
