As I am close to a year behind, this post starts the pictures taken
last season. Beginning with May.
From an outing to an area, park, here is an unknown caterpillar on Ash. I don't yet have an ID.

Scorpionflies
Panorpa sp. These weird insects are generally scavengers on dead insects. This male shows why they are given their common name. The scorpion-like tail is only seen in males, and it is simply a feature of their elaborate genitalia. I stuck with this one for a long time, and he became quite used to me so I could get closer and closer.

A small Dung Beetle with an interesting metallic color. It might belong in genus
Phanaeus.

Cobweb spider. This could be one of several species (the False Black Widow,
Steatoda grossa, plus some others). I've put out a feeler on a different web site to see if I might get an ID.

Dimorphic Jumping Spider (
Maevia inclemens. There were lots of these around the house last summer. This cute little male was fun to photograph in a staged session on the dining room table. Their common name is because males come in two color forms. This one, and another kind that is pale all over but has orange markings.

Thank you for looking!
An outstanding set, Mark.
Over the several years of viewing this section, these small creatures no longer have an ugly look ... all are so interesting in their own way and a source of wonderment, a source of wondering why they are designed in their individual way.
Some real beauties Mark Loved this set. Very sharp. Well done my friend. Happy New Year!

EXCEPTIONAL!! to the tenth order.
What a wonderful selection. I have never seen a 2-tone spider before and those scorpion fly shots are wonderful. Happy New Year.
Nice set! I'm of course partial to the jumpers .....
