Just a fun set.

In Venice after we had lunch and we’re walking back to the car we saw the horses enjoying their lunch.

Another stop in Rotonda for coffee and this car caught our eye. A 1957 Buick, the owner has had it for seven years and gets 10mpg, with a fuel tank capacity of 20 gallons.

Opposite the house where we were staying was a lake and we went for a short stroll.

Sorry Jack (Curmudgeon)look the other way for the last two.

Sylvia, another fascinating post from your Florida vacation. It would appear that you've been to Florida more than I have (a little too warm for us Yankies). This time I can't single out a single picture as best because I personally identify with all of them.

Starting with the horses in the trailer, my wife and I have spent about 60% of our time for the last 25 years riding and caring for our 4 horses. The rest of the time was pretty much wasted (almost). We were very active trail riders and loved to camp at parks and bridle trails all over the Ohio area. Our trailer was much smaller than the one in your image but big enough for our needs. Getting up at dawn and going out and saying good morning to our horses in the morning mist is a memory we'll always cherish.

My parents had a '56 Buick Century which was pretty close in looks to the '57 in your pictures. They were referred to as hardtops because there was no post between the front and rear windows. When both front and rear windows were down the entire side of the car was open. Don't see too many cars like that these days. 1957 was the year I got my driver's license and the Buick Century was the first car I drove. But only limited, their 2nd car was a green 1950 Mercury (Rebel Without a Cause) and that's the one I got to drive routinely. By the way, 10 mpg with a 20 gallon tank wasn't an issue when gas was $0.20 a gallon, at least I don't recall anyone complaining.

Lastly, when my father retired, they moved to Jekyll Island, Georgia, an intercoastal island just north of the Florida border. There were 4 golf courses on the island very similar to the one in your last pictures. Alligators were in all the lakes on the course and most of the time they would sun themselves on the fairways next to the lake. They were pretty much motionless unless you got too close. Their reaction was to scoot back into the lake in a second or two. Kind of scary if you weren't expecting it. Wild turkeys were the biggest problem on the courses. It was not uncommon for there to be 20-30 on the green when you approached. They left reluctantly but left droppings all over the green which you then had to putt through. Not fun trying to clear it out of the way with your putter either.

I've rambled on too long but thanks for sharing your pictures, they sure brought back a lot of memories for me.

I am so happy they brought back memories for you Reuss, I have certainly enjoyed reading your very interesting comments. We were pleasantly surprised to find the petrol here was a third of the price of what we pay in the UK as our government use it to collect tax.

In our village we had a problem with geese owned by people at the top end. These geese strutted about all over leaving droppings wherever they wished! on people’s driveways and gardens. In the end some people obviously complained as they suddenly disappeared.

We are sitting at Orlando Airport all checked in waiting for the plane to take us back to rain, wind and cold, with a possibility of snow in the next few days.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

FYI, should your geese problem reoccur, owls hunt all kinds of critters including birds and geese. If you just put a cutout of an owl in plain sight, geese will stay away. Place I used to work had several ponds with geese and they wanted them to stay there instead of parking lots. Owls cutouts did the trick.

At least you have an opportunity for a white Christmas, our forecast isn't looking good

Merrry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Bob.

I'm not sure what's available for CoVid treatment in U.K.. I contacted Covid a year ago. Symptoms were so mild that I didn't realize it until my sister-in-law, who we visited 2 days prior, called to tell us she tested positive. We tested and we also had it. I contacted my doctor and he prescribed a medication that must be taken within a week and consisted of a daily dose for 5 days. Two days after that I tested negative. My wife didn't have the treatment and was still testing positive 2 months later long after contagion was an issue. Hope your symptoms are mild.

It’s called Paxlovid Reuss, however I have Chronic Kidney Disease and cannot take it. I had covid 2 years ago quite severe and it is turning out the same this time. it will just have to run its course.
