Although I would rarely use the screen as viewfinder so it's not relevant to me. But if I were to use it as waist level viewfinder it's better just to tilt the screen up than swinging it out of the body where the screen is now to the side of the camera. With the Z8 screen you only lose the ability to do selfie.
I would never buy a camera without a viewfinder because I use the viewfinder most of the time. However there are scenes, times, when I need to the camera directly above me, or have a ladder and times when I need to shoot very low. I will get those high shots with the OM-D. But not possible without a ladder with the Z8. And I can't vlog with the Z8. And Vlogging is important to the younger future customers. So just saying, that Z8 screen is limiting what is possible. Nikon can make it better.

Having said all that. I am really liking the Z8. ;)

I think customer feedback is important for any company and the purpose here is to have a discussion, make people aware of the issue, then those who wish for improvements can make suggestions to Nikon.

Nope - send your ideas to Nikon if you have any of those ideas - here you are just tilting at windmills.

Name them.

Well three I use fairly often are Live ND, Live Composite and Pro Capture.
It also has a pretty big size & weight advantage, especially if I’m traveling or hiking.

My OM-1 and M43 kit is my go to travel, adventure, hiking and carry everyday camera.

Mine must be defective, it has very limited options and a ridiculously complex mechanism. Am I missing something here? I was expecting much more. I wish I had the option to buy the Z8 without it. I would rather not have a back screen, save the space and the potential unreliability, than have to put up with the abortion that is there now.

Full disclosure: I have many Nikon cameras and lenses I am a fan of the Nikon cameras and lenses. But Nikon's articulating screen design is just plain stupid.

Olympus has had a TRUE articulating screen for many years. Please see attached images for a proper articulating screen design.

Research is your friend. Only 2 Nikon Z mirrorless bodies offer "articulating" rear monitors that I am aware of, the Z30 and the Zf.

It's not like I didn't do research. Apparently I confused the screen with the Zf screen. But the screen wasn't the reason I bought the Z8 nor would I have passed on buying the Z8 had I know the limitations of the back screen.

But I think Nikon is missing an opportunity to offer the advantages of a better design to their customers and also to get some younger new customers who would use the camera for vlogging.

I seriously doubt anyone would be buying a Z8 for vlogging. That’s who the designed the Z30 for.

I have no interest in either the Z8 or Z9 which have the same design for the LCD panel but I knew they are not fully articulated. So the OP should have known if that feature is important to him. To me that feature is unimportant. So by the thread tittle alone the OP didn't do enough research before buying. He should have known that fact.

I am really quite tired of people telling me what I should or should not have known. I watched plenty of videos and read reviews. Articulating was not a deal breaker for me. I just expected that Nikon would make a more useful screen for their flagship camera.

You said in the tittle "I thought the Z8 had an articulating screen?". You should have known, You may like it or don't like it. You may think Nikon should have done better but you should know that it doesn't have an articulating screen.
If your tillte is "Nikon should have made the Z8 with an articulating screen" then I won't say anything.
