Trump’s companies have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, which means a company can remain in business while wiping away many of its debts. The bankruptcy court ultimately approves a corporate budget and a plan to repay remaining debts; often shareholders lose much of their equity.
Trump’s Taj Mahal opened in April 1990 in Atlantic City, but six months later, “defaulted on interest payments to bondholders as his finances went into a tailspin,” The Washington Post’s Robert O’Harrow found. In July 1991, Trump’s Taj Mahal filed for bankruptcy. He could not keep up with debts on two other Atlantic City casinos, and those two properties declared bankruptcy in 1992. A fourth property, the Plaza Hotel in New York, declared bankruptcy in 1992 after amassing debt.

Rac - as charming as ever. You are splitting hairs (you can look that up). What you are missing, no surprise, is that the Trump organization, is a private corporation with Trump as the majority owner. When he discussing his worth, it is a sum of these parts; but he limits his personal liability, by partnerships, LLC's, separate corporations, etc.. It is still him. Suggest you take a course in Corporate Accounting. It is the game the really rich play.
In the case of Atlantic City, the Taj was financed by junk bonds. When the Taj started to go south (jargon in case you don't know - losing big money) he filed multiple times on his holdings leaving his creditors, employees and people like contractors holding the bag. If you check into his creditors now - look to non US. Not a good guy to do business with in my opinion and many others. The law suit in NY caught him at his own game. If he had a public company (I'll make it easy for you - stock company) Sarbanes-Oxley would have caught him a lot sooner.

Ok I understand, you don't understand how closely held companies work from an accounting standpoint. The Trump organization is mostly held by Trump. Percentages vary, but it's almost always a major interest. His personal assets are protected by the way he incorporates. But as I said before he burned some major financial bridges with the Taj. Financial people talk - he does most of financing now overseas. I do wonder how much is with the Chinese or the Russian oligarchs. This brings about the next thing you don't understand.
Let me introduce you to a marketing concept - It's called branding. Trump personally is the brand of the Trump organization. If you get a chance look up Trump and branding. Google is your friend.
When one of his companies goes bankrupt, it is measured against him as he is the brand. His brand is Trump hyper-successful business man. Unfortunately looking at his past, it isn't that glorious.
Suggest you take a couple of online courses - basic economics, corporate accounting, Marketing 101 and basic political science - the latter especially as you don't know righty from lefty.
