This is the menu from the restaurant that was one block away from my high school in 1958. The minimum federal wage that year was $1.00/hr.

I was about 4 years young in 1963 & remembering sitting in the back seat of our station wagon & my father complaining about gasoline going up to $.19 a gallon.

Yes, but the median income was $6200 in 1963 - for families headed by college graduates, the median was $9,700...

I believe the banks were offering something around 5% interest on savings accounts back then.
I would just like to be able to order some of the items on the menu regardless of price.

You know, that's a real good point. If banks had kept pace with inflation, they should be offering about depositors 20% interest on savings accounts. Instead, they've reduced it to less than one-half a percent. Well at least they kept credit interest charges up with inflation; the ads I get show they'll charge up to 29% (more than loan sharks, I think).
By the information given, everything has remained in perspective. Today’s prices are not out of line with this.
