These are some photos I took today, but I am unsure if they are print or sale worthy. Please let me know if you think I should print them or not. I am very hard on myself, and have other people tell me I am good. I tend to be more judgmental of my photos, so think that they are not good enough to do much with. I know that if I want great photos of wildlife, that I need a better lens than my Sigma 18-250mm. That will happen later, but it may be a Minolta lens for my Sony A77v.

You are right on all counts. The Minolta will work just fine, providing it is better than 400 mm

A long time friend and somewhat photo mentor tells me often to ONLY show your best photos. I believe he is right. While I like your photos I honestly do not think they are print worthy and definitely not sale worthy in my opinion. The birds are too far away and will need to be cropped a lot to even make them worthy of taking a look at. They are too dark and would need to be lightened a bit. Even then you might end up with pixellated photos.

If they were mine I would choose the one you think is best and use it as an example of striving for a better photograph. We all know you are better than these photos and they are but a stepping stone to much better photos you are capable of presenting.

I wish you well on your photographic journey,

Dennis

They are mediocre. And if you don't know what mediocre really means, go ahead and yell at me.

Print for what purpose? If you mean print them for yourself, my tastes and style are different from yours, I cannot say what you will like on your wall. This is something you must decide.

If you mean print to sell, then I suggest you search on-line for birds in flight and nature photos for sale, see what is offered and see what is selling.

About a couple of years back, I got into shooting BIF, amazing what one might find in their own backyard. I noticed a red tailed hawk hanging around the neighborhood and started shooting the hawk. I shoot with my trusty old Canon 5D Mark-lll and a 70-200mm f2.8L lens. I found that 200mm wasn’t enough reach so I purchased a 2x extender because I couldn’t afford a new longer lens at the time. Even at 400mm that still isn’t enough reach. Yet I continue to shoot the hawk with my setup and finally got a decent shot that I would like to share. My goal for 2024 is to purchase a longer lens and hopefully a new mirrorless camera.

400mm ISO 1600 f16 1/1600

I will try the download again. By the way, thanks for the compliment on my photo. It took me a while to get the right settings with the extender.

Thank you very much for pointing that out. Perhaps darinr8 would like attention paid to HIS thread.
