Well all Z lenses will be larger at the mount. The Z mount has a much larger flange than the F mount.

The important advantages to the removal of the mirror include not only the IBIS stabilization but the ability to have the rear on the lens closer to the sensor plane and larger flange diameter. Both contribute to simpler, higher performance and lower cost. (Don’t count on lower prices.) I don’t know much about lens design but with the mirror in the way the design must include sort of a telescope to cram the image through a small hole to a sensor far away. All that makes larger aperture prime lenses practical although a f/1.2 lens is much larger than a f/4 lens of the same focal length.

IBIS Stabilization is NOT an advantage of ‘removing the mirror’.

Pentax DSLRs have had IBIS Stabilization for at least ten years.

True, I think the confusion comes from the fact that both Nikon and Canon shifted from lens stabilisation to sensor stabilisation when they moved from DSLR to mirrorless.

Let it go and breathe. It doesn’t matter who did what when. The fact is Pentax is currently way behind.

It depends on what the goal is.

There’s no “depends”. It’s a fact. Although I guess the goal is to remain relevant and compete in today’s market.

They have featured Japanese artist after Japanese artist who continue to use film. Many of them use Medium Format - enough to make me wonder if they might produce a Medium Format camera in parallel to a 35mm camera. Pentax’s main market remains in Japan, and their main interest is to serve that market - they really don’t care what the rest us think, but we are welcome to purchase their products.

These days I doubt that a camera and lens company (with the R&D involved with digital) can survive long just focusing on its national market unless they heavily invest in local advertising but this can only last for so long (not mentioning that Pentax is not the only Japanese player and the others, especially Canon, have bigger budgets to do exactly the same thing).

The annual reports from Ricoh show them to be profitable.

Yes but my point was a response to the opinion that they could survive as camera manufacturers only focusing on the Japanese market. Besides Ricoh is not just Pentax (the GR line and much much more). In fact Pentax does not even show up in the report as it is so infinitesimal in the company's economy. ;o)

Ricoh produces mostly printers of course, but their annual reports have ‘called out’ Pentax cameras.

Pentax does focus on their Japanese customers. I doubt if they would hire you if you’d want to change that. Ricoh’s top management seems to be satisfied at how Pentax is run.

Ricoh has become a "digital service company" (from its own words in their 2023 report) that goes far far beyond printers and copiers. I am not sure Pentax (that does not even show as such in the report) is going to employ that many new workers anyway. Pentax and Ricoh cameras are just a way for the company to remain "visible" in a specific market where Pentax used to be a major player (Spotmatic SLRs, and even Pentax 6x7), but it is definitely not what makes it run now.
