Southern California Christmas Eve Launch Scheduled

This morning a Spacex/Falcon 9 launch was scrubbed.

Here is an update from SpaceX:

"SpaceX is targeting Sunday, December 24 for a Falcon 9 launch of the SARah-2 mission to low-Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The 83-minute launch window opens at 5:11 a.m. PST."

If the weather remains clear and calm this could be a nice morning light show for Christmas Eve morning over a wide area of Southern California. Fingers crossed.

Ho Ho Ho😊

and a good photo op. Unlike those of us in ‘normal weather’, photographers in SoCal can stand around for a while outside without getting cold.

The launch this morning was successful. You can view it on Spacex website. However, it was not visible from my location due to fog and cloud cover. Next time. :)

U can download a free app called "SuperCluster" for either Android or IPhone. It will give you the status of any launch as well as a link for voice, what the cargo is places to view the launch, what rocket is going etc

but nothing beats watching a real takeoff ‘live’. Many years ago, my family camped out on the beach to see a Gemini launch - then it was canceled at the last moment, and we saw it on TV - what a disappointment!!

Thanks for the info! I appreciate it. Most of my notifications come from a list server run by a gentleman from the Vandenburg Space Force Base area. An iPhone app would be fantastic. Thanks again.

Agree! Plus you can hear it in surround sound live. I plan to go to a spot and take a photo using my tripod and Z800mm lens. However the viewing area I want to stage at is temporarily closed so I have to wait.
