Four Good Snow Tire Brands

Paul Ulibari, a tire store manager in Colorado, likes these three brands of snow tires. They are referred to a "3PMS," mean "3 Peak Mountain Snow." That symbol is placed on the sidewall of tries that have at least 10% better traction starting on snow. Turning and braking don't enter into the testing.

Cooper ATS 4S
These 3PMS-rated all-season tires for trucks and SUVs are the ones Ulibari has on his truck. “I don’t want to be taking them on and off,” he says. The performance on snow is also second to none. “You won’t go back to winter without one,” he says. “The stopping ability, the handling ability is night and day.”

Michelin X-Ice
These 3PMS-rated Michelin snow tires are made for passenger cars, SUV crossovers and luxury performance vehicles. They’re also Ulibari’s budget-friendly pick, with an estimated 40,000 mile life. “As it starts wearing, it creates an almost rough texture on the tread that literally helps get that additional traction for stopping, handling, acceleration,” he says.

Toyo Celsius All-Season
This 3PMS-rated Toyo all-season tire also gets Ulibari’s vote for its year-round ability and winter-weather performance. It comes in passenger car, SUV/crossover SUV and commercial grades.

One more-
Although he mention it, the Bridgestone Blizzak is often rated #1 or #2 among snow tires.

We use both Blizzak and Michelin here.

Those are excellent snow tires, from my experience. I drove to Alaska in January 2017 with those on a loaded pickup.
The only time they slipped was when I deliberately 'goosed' the pedal on a icy stretch somewhere in North Dakota.

They were only meant for Alaska, not North Dakota...😎😋😉

I had a set of Blizzacks on a two wheel drive Toyota Camry when I lived near the tip of the lower peninsula of Michigan. Marvelous snow tires.

One they should have mentioned are the BFGoodrich K02 tires. They also have the Mountain/snowflake symbol, are good all year round, and have a 52,000-mile warranty. They are quiet with excellent traction in all conditions. I've been using them on my Ram 2500 4x4 for many years and have pulled my trailer over 8,000' passes on hardpacked snow and never have had to chain up. I live on a steep hill and can make it up on 2' of fresh snow, of course in 4-wheel drive mode.

I have been putting Michelin Defenders on my 2015 F150 Super Cab with 17-inch Tires. I have been getting 80K miles on them and buy from Tire Rack in South Bend,Indiana.
