I have a 1.4 tele-extender on my Canon RF 800 to take it to 1120, and its sharp enough to have a sharp 13 x 19 print. Beyond 1100 or so there is too much atmospheric junk unless you are shooting straight up.

And not only lenses that work best, but lenses where you can use the manufacturers TC at all. The front of the optics of the TC (Canon) that I use projects past the front flange of the TC, so it will not work with all lenses. The three considerations are:
Will it fit the lens?
Will the camera AF at one (1.4x TC) or two (2x TC) stops less that the TC adds?
Is the degradation acceptable?

The MTF charts published by Canon shows only ~5% loss of sharpness using the 1.4x Canon TC with their EF 100-400L for example.
And not only lenses that work best, but lenses whe... (show quote)

And it’s more than just fit. The firmware needs to have the capability. It doesn’t just need to fit, it also needs to WORK.

Unless you are using a Canon Mirrorless which focuses out to f/22.

The OP stated he has a D500. I have no problem with my Z9 focusing beyond f/8.

The more glass the possibility of more distortion in which case I use. If you have seen my work it far from conventional. However, if you don't need a "TC" don't use one. Kind of like shooting portraits with a 300mm lens.

As stated by a few of us: The Z9 is a mirrorless camera body. The D500 is not, and as only meant to maintain 15-points of focus factors out to F8. This is like comparing older to newer technology concepts.

The D500 being an older camera and a DSLR is very limited in AF capabilities compared to the Z9.
At smaller than f5.6 it either quits or is slow at AF.

Hi there. I have a question for those who are using a D500 and Sigma 150-600C as well as a TC. If so what are your findings ie. I would much appreciate some feedback. Thanks in anticipation!

I have both, the d500 and the Sigma. The d5oo is a great camera, however I find the Sigma 150-600 sweet spot is around the 500 mm range. And with the d500 one usually gets one crop, maybe two because 24mp is all you have. I harken to the old saying: move your feet. If shooting wildlife, study, know the subject and learn to stalk. I believe the TC's are not the way to go.

PS, D500 is a low mp camera of only 20.9 mp.

Thats true. Not sure about other brands, but to use Fuji TCs with some Fuji lenses requires that the lens be up to a specific FW level.

And exactly what does that have to do with the OP’s question? I have a Z9 and I had a D500. You’re not dropping any bombshells here.

Because when you hook up TCs to it with large zoom lenses (cheaper than f/4s) like the earlier posts were talking about. { Sorry I didn't Quote enough posts for context.} Then the Focus factor will be out of range for the D500, and you'll end up having to manual focus, which may defeat the purpose of adding the TC. --- That was the point.
You'd have better results with the Z9.

Is this true of “LiveView” {using the rear LCD} as well using the OVF??

Does the focusing system in the Z9 work as well as the focusing system works in the D500?

There is little comparing the two bodies: https://cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-Z9-vs-Nikon-D500
