Didn’t take long for them to go off the deep end. When it comes to faith, you can’t replace stupid with reality.
Carl Sagan was a brilliant scientist and astronomer who was gifted with the skills to communicate the marvels of our universe in a way that made it understandable to the layman. And he is right about the scientific method in that it is a way of discovering the truth in such matters. But this statement is wrong, arrogant, intolerant and belies the point he is trying to make. Sagan was an atheist which may explain why he needs to find perfection in science itself instead of the Creator of everything he admires including humanity and our infallibilities.
Sadly not a Christmas message.

Why? Not political or religious in any way.
Now as to anyone that thinks this is an anti-religion post in any manner, it is not, and you are misreading my intention in posting. It’s a comment on the recent anti science crowd, which I think is dangerous for our society. Personally, I have no problem in believing in both the Deity and evolution - I do and find the two completely compatible. It was never my intention to cause a religious debate on Christmas (or any other time), and if you see it that way, maybe the question is why the simple comment about science and evolution offends and threatens you.

Actually it is the other way round - evolution "created" man and then man created God
And that is the reality of it all.
The anti-evolution comments here are exactly what Sagan is talking about. For too many, it’s an either-or proposition, either it’s religion or science, since both can’t exist in their worldview.
Creationism and evolution are not necessarily incompatible beliefs.....

Since the very first comment was “Attic”, where the insane and uncivil reside, I thought the level of discussion would rapidly disintegrate. Not yet!
And I still do not know what the statement “really” implies, especially followed by multiple exclamation points.

Carl Sagan was a brilliant scientist and astronome... (

To each his own. The faithful have to find perfection in their beliefs in order to validate those beliefs since any deviation would imply that their beliefs can be questioned. Science is not a belief system, it’s a method of thinking and developing explanations for the phenomena we experience around us. I’m an atheist but I don’t begrudge the faithful believing what they believe. I do begrudge their proselytizing though.
Just signing in to this to see where it goes. My loved one tells me to keep my big trap shut.

And I still don’t understand your comment, especially with the three exclamation points.
A beautiful message.
