Everyone knows Jingle Bells. What's the horse's name?

Ok, I'll bite. Without looking it up, I believe it's something like Bobtail. But I believe there's some controversy there.

Ralph?
(Not necessarily Bob or Bobtail.)
One version: ...bells are on "bobtails" ring... (plural) bobs on the horses tails.
Each horse has a bobbed tail with bells on it.

Another version: ...bells on bob tail ring... (two words), one bobbed tail horse.
Implied "a" bob tail, left out to maintain rhythm.

Bob. ("Robert" when he's in big trouble.)
"Bells on Bob's tail ring..."

Then again, I had an English teacher in high school who assured us that Lady Macbeth's given name was "Charles". After all, doesn't Macbeth call her, "Dearest Chuck"? 🙄

RiJoRi is correct. The lyrics are grammatically incorrect. It can't be bobtails because it is a ONE-HORSE open sleigh. Since there is only one horse, it has to be Bob's tail so the horses name is Bob. Very common to name draft horse with simple names like Bob, or Bill or Sam.

Bob tail is a short tail sleigh. Like a Bob tail truck as apposed to a semi truck.

"Bobtail" is a word describing any animal whose tail has been "bobbed," in this case, the horses' tail pulling the sleigh.. It's not a description of the sleigh. The bells are on the horse.

I've read through the lyrics, the horses' name is not given.
