We donate to a local Battered Women's Shelter. 100% goes to the shelter. They send a truck to our front driveway and load it. They provide a computer printout of items collected. We take photos of each item for income tax audits if needed. We also donate to the Salvation Army and our local Food Bank (those are hurting right now with the economy as it is). As mention in the chart above, the top line organizations are blood suckers. They get no money from us. When my Dad was alive he was a firefighter. He abhorred the Red Cross and loved the Salvation Army, The reason being is the Red Cross would come to fires and charge the firefighters for refreshments and respit, whereas the Salvation Army would shows up and give the hardworking firefighters drinks and snacks for freem with a good attitude and blessing. It pays to know where your money/items actually go.

One thing that people do not understand about Military charities is that when a Veteran is hurt while he is doing his duty, the Fedeal Government pays for all his medical bills and needs for the rest of his life. So I would like to find out how much money these Veteran charities are getting from the American people and how much the board that runs the charities are getting for their salaries out of the money they collect from people. I bet you that it is quite staggering.

FFS dude, think, or at least get the correct information before you post such ridiculous and uneducated statements such as this.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the government actually would take care of their veterans the way it should? Instead veterans have the fight for their benefits sometimes for years.

So, no, the Veteran Administration do not take care of the veterans that need help 100%, unless you're 100% bed ridden for the rest of your life from the get go, and sometimes even then, you have to go through so much hurdles.

Don't believe me, just ask veterans if they get the 100% you're claiming they get for life.

Yes, a lot of so called charities are "for profit" in reality. I discovered this years ago and now only donate to veterans organizations or St Jude.

Interesting. Some of it I knew, some of it I suspected. Where does the American Cancer Society fall? I mainly give to specific pet animal causes, and for specific human diseases.

I'll add from my direct personal experience Kars For Kids is a scam with some very cute advertising. I had to nearly threaten and contact the DMV because they did not report their purchase of my old junker or re-register it as salvage. I had to keep contacting them to get the vehicle off my name. Sure I sent my paperwork in but the CA DMV has a two step process. Just like with an accident, they have to hear from both parties when both are known. So now I only use an old vehicle as a trade-in with a dealer even if all they credit me is $50.

I donate to 3 charities (sometimes 4:)

If the friend or relative who passed is Christian, I donate to St. Jude's. I'm most interested in the health and welfare of children.

If the friend or relative who passed is Jewish, I plant a tree in Israel.

When the mood strikes me, I will donate to Wounded Warriors.

Sometimes I donate to Ukraine.

Good choices. I wish you had Heavy Battle Tanks and Cruse Missiles for the Ukraine! Put*n = S#t#n. Better stay off politics or this all will end up in the UHH Attic!

Thanks for posting this. My monetary donations have gone to St. Judes for many years now. We are fortunate here to have two locations for KARMS (Knox Area Rescue Ministries) for donating goods.

Wrong! Veterans get F'd most of the time unless everything is documented.

when they call, if you ask how much goes to the actual charity, they are required by law to tell you. Usually they will either argue that "That is better than nothing" but usually they just hang up.

Yes, charities are great money-makers. I hope all that info is accurate. I prefer donating to local charities that I know are legit.

Years ago i ran a NGO as part of a university program. Our total operating budget was then $4 million and we were always comming really close to not meeting our expense needs. We looked into a fundraising company. One of those that are involved in telephone solicitations. After we looked over the proposal of three such companies, we said no thanks. They assured us wevwouldvraisebtens of thousands of dollars a year, but their cost and profit, aka their cut was over 80%. We tell such solicitors when they call, if we even answer the call, that we never donate over the phone.

That's their gimmick. Yes, you will receive lots of money, but they could receive even more. That catch is that without them, you would receive nothing.

My wife and I created a charity in memory of our son, Brian who passed away eight years ago. He had several disabilities but he excelled in all that he chose to do. Having graduated from college, he was also a Eagle Scout, Scuba Diver and photographer. He also wanted to learn to pilot planes but passed before he had a chance. We are giving awards to children with disabilities who excel in school, we donate pianos to schools for children to learn music, we even provide summer camping for kids.

We don’t have salaries and pay for our expenses.

It is hard to operate a charity and remain transparent. Most charities have salaried employees. Our charity is a labor of love to our son.

Our charity is: www.TheBrianFoundation.org.

We are working to get our charity rating but this takes time. Log onto our website to learn more about our son. You are not obligated to make a donation. When our rating is complete then you are welcome to make a donation.

I used to donate to the United Way then the local group decided it was a great idea to go for one of those Nigerian deals and lost several million dollars of donations in the process; idiots!

That was the last time I donated to anything! I volunteer instead. I see directly what my efforts are doing.
