It's not a "hot air rises" thing nor a stirling cycle. They use a thermo power cell which generates electricity from two sides of the cell having different temperature. so the fan unit has a base to contact the stove top, and a finned component to disperse the heat from it's top. It's still very hot but cooler than the base. this generates electricity which drives the fan.

Thanks for that. It's nice to learn something every day.

Or you would end up confessing to everything they accuse you of. (A la Iron Maiden.)

It's definitely not a thermoelectric generator, which doesn't have blades. Sippyjug104 had it right. It's a fundamental principle of physics that heated air has more energy than cold air and heated air moves toward a cooler region. That air flow impacting on fan blades causes them to turn. Just like a windmill. The fan blades change the direction of the heated air impinging on the blades.

The first rule of nature I learned in a Heating and Air Conditioning School... "Hot goes to cold".

I bought one of these years ago for my wood stove. I don't understand how heat makes it spin. The hotter the stove gets, the faster it spins. How does it work?

Amazon doesn't offer an explanation.

The answer is hot air rises, and the hotter it is the faster it rises.

Many here really do NOT understand physics - any hot air rising would exert equal force on BOTH sides of the blades (which are PARALLEL to any rising airflow) - resulting in NO net torque and Zero rotation. This is totally different from the 'Christmas Pyramids" having fan blades PERPENDICULAR to the airflow above candles.
The thermopile/Peltier Junction to electric motor is the correct answer.

Yes, and there is no such thing as cold. It's just the absence of heat.

Fudds 4th law of Physics: Anything that is HOT now will become COLD later.
Just a matter of time.

Does that apply to the rich man who married a "hot wife"?

Just like Jerry to accurately read between the lines.
Tho the wife may be Hot now, likely in 20 years she'll be 'cold'
Its a wibbly wobbly timey wimey thing.

That's why rich guys update all the time. Update rather than upgrade. The new ones aren't better than the old ones when they first got the old ones.

I've been quite happy with my 'old one' for 40 years now
